Advice for background building. New GM

Advice

Hey guys. Starting up my games tomorrow but i wanted to make sure that players had some more fleshed out backgrounds and i was looking for some tools to help them out.

One of my players backgrounds begins and ends with " Goblins burned down my village" so i know there is something in ultimate campaign. I remember reading on forums for a 100 questions for your character that looked really awesome but i cant find it now. If anyone has that link or others i would really appreciate cause i want my game to be more about interactions and not just combat stats.

Thanks

Are you using an Adventure Path?

Sovereign Court

Do you have the Ultimate Campaign? there are literally tables and various charts to build up an interesting character background and one that doesn't feel like someone didn't come out of nowhere.

The free Basic Rules for 5e D&D contain several tables players can either choose from or roll randomly to help create the characters' backgrounds and personalities. Most of it is rules neutral, so you shouldn't have any problem using it in a PF game.

I am running rise of the runelords. I don't have ultimate yet. And ill take a look at 5e see what i can make us of.

Just to be clear, I meant that most of the personality/background tables are rules neutral, not most of 5e.

Oh you running the regular rise of the runelords?

You should get

Rotrl Anniversary Edition player guide for some adventure tied traits and it's free.

for future reference all the aps have player guides and they are all free.
