What is a bonded animal anyway?

So the phrase "Bonded animal" only shows up in the playtest rulebook in the feat that shares its name. There are no instruction on what the stats of the bonded animal are and how you should adjudicate them in play. How have other people dealt with this?

I'm almost positive you just use the stats of the animal from the bestiary. A bonded animal doesn't scale with your level or anything like a full blown animal companion does.

That is what we eventually figured out but there is no guidance on adjudication for what animals are available.

That's because it is entirely based on the game. You have to actually be able to find the animal and improve its attitude toward you, IIRC. So you're limited by both the local ecosystem and what your character is capable of wrangling. So a lot of it is GM fiat.
