Point Buy vs Rolling

Creating a Character

I'll cut right to the chase. I think point buy is over-powered.

It may be personal taste, but I like rolling ability scores and having 1-2 scores that are below 10.

With the rules in the book, point buy not only starts you at 10 for everything, but you also get 6 instances of +2 boosts and only one -2 flaw. It is stated that you can reduce one of your own scores if you'd like, but there are no incentives for doing so.

When you roll, there's not only the randomness of the dice, but you only get 4 boosts and still the one flaw.

As I said, I like rolling better, but am i missing something with the high scores? Is the whole game designed with having higher stats in mind, and if so, why does rolling get fewer boosts?

I think starting at 8 instead of 10 might be better for point buy, but again, maybe I'm missing a point. Any answers would be appreciated.

O_O point buy over powered. That's interesting I always find dice rolling to be the most problematic because of the difference between one character and another that is leads too.

I think its probably going to be balanced around the point buy. So maybe it will take some tinkering. what dice roll rule do you use? just 3d6, 4d6 drop lowest etc.

Yeah, the game's super balanced around you having an 18 in your primary stat. Super super mega ultra hardcore balanced around you failing your primary ability checks 50% of the time (yes, that's where you land when you have an 18, at best you can reduce that to 40% for some things in some situations).
