My first road block I found while creating my bard is cantrips while in the cleric entry it gives an example of a first level cleric being able to prepare 2 first level spells and four cantrips. No where in the bard spellcasting does it tell you how many cantrips you can cast nor does the chart tell you how many cantrips you can cast or how many of them or if they increase as you level.

I noticed the pregen cleric get 4 and only four at 5th lvl so I am going to assume a bard will get 4.
Just a note a rule book should not have a player making assumptions from other classes or searching for pregen character to figure out the class he is trying to create

edit—never mind I did find it next paragraph under spell repertoire. still not sure if you gain any additional cantrips.
Yesterday I created my first cleric today I am creating a bard for a playtest I am attending this weekend.

Also: There are tables for class and ancestry, page 13 of the rulebook. One for backgrounds would also be useful though.

Quick suggestion too: I'd choose Class, then Ancestry, then Background and do the stats in that order too. That way you're picking in the order of most importance to your character to 'least'. Means the stats go from the most fixed to the most free too.
queenofthorns wrote:Claus Böhm wrote:

It is this idea of a build for character generation. That is what the problem is, every time you roll up characters it's a major investment of time. It was really a lot easier than was.

"Characters abilities and skills are determined by their Aspects. Each character starts with
the six following aspects:
• Personality - what the character is like,
• Profession - what they do as a job,
• Education - what they were trained to do,
• Background - how they were raised,
• Interests - what they care about, and
• Experience - what has happened to them.
Each aspect provides additional skills and affects a character’s success ratio when
attempting different things. All is at the GM’s discretion, so more or fewer aspects are
possible"
could it be this easy? all in all, it's a good thing in mind.
I have been hanging around the forums trying to figure out how to play Pathfinder.
Specific complaint being "Why are backgrounds in the core book if we can't use them?"

This is partily the fault of how we did things, everyone just downloaded the pdf and made their characters at home, then brought them to game night. When we were told we had to take an adventure background insted most of us got annoyed. One guy flat out refused to change his because none of the ones in the adventure fit his concept. GM chose not to argue the point and just let him keep it.

With Traits in PF1, since you got 2 of them and it wasn't as vital a part of your concept, it was less of an issue, you could take 1 campaign trait for the Path and still take another one. You could even take more if you had Flaws or spent a feat.

In the future I think it would be better if Adventure Backgrounds were more like modifiers to existing Backgrounds. Maybe add an extra option for the attribute boosts or a 2nd option for the bonus skill
One issue we ran into was Adventure Backgrounds

0. We really liked the general flow of building characters and backgrounds :) though few seem very niche but I guess many more will be forthcoming.

1. It would be nice to have another feat to flesh out your character at lvl 1 - perhaps tie them into backgrounds so they give 2 feats of 3 choices?

2. Buying/nitpicking equipment like backpack, waterskin, chalk etc takes a long time and almost requires a spreadsheet. Please include some basic kits that can be mixed and matched - I mean we dont buy each thief tool individually.

3. please spell out for all multi-attacks such as monk flurry of blows counts as 1 or 2 attacks for impairing multi-attack penalty to further attacks??

4. Bulk seems to pretty inconsequential ... if we understand it correctly even a character with STR 10 seems ot be able to carry heavy armour etc?!

5. Like the noisy / clumsy characteristics of armours!

6. Travel clothes has a spelled out bonus, but not fine clothing?

7. shouldnt it be an option to resist Trip with Athletics skill?

8. Whats the point of d4 weapons? Perhaps have a quick-draw quality for "sidearms" such as daggers (1h swords?)
We created our lvl 1 party and had couple discussions, feedback in no particular order:
