Monsters and Hazards


After reading through the Bestiary I had these questions and comments. Some of them might be my fault in misunderstanding or misreading something so let me know if that’s the case.

Page 17

In the Frozen Moment hazard it lists that characters trapped need to make a will save after each minute (millennia) against a warp mind spell but doesn’t list when or how the characters can escape the trap once caught inside. Do they get a new save at the listed DC after every minute?

Page 21

In the “building an encounter” section it lists that “trivial” encounters rarely award experience but also lists on table 5 that a trivial encounter has an experience budget of 40, which happens to be the same as the experience budget of an encounter equal to the party’s level. Are we to assume that, for one, an encounter of the party’s level is supposed to be trivial, and two, that, even though it claims the party is to be awarded 40 xp they shouldn’t receive any because of its “trivial” nature? I assume this isn’t what is intended and this needs to be clarified.

The doppelganger is listed as an uncommon creature but has the orange color indicating rare.

The hydra entry is quite confusing. First off, it mentions that the hydra is immune to area damage but in the “head regrowth” section it claims you can cauterize multiple heads with an area attack that deals fire or acid damage. Secondly, in the “hydra regeneration” section it mentions that the hydra’s regeneration only ceases after all of its heads have been severed, but wouldn’t that result in the hydra’s death anyway?

In the Sandpoint Devil entry it lists the creature as unique but lacks the blue color.
