Range and Speed for Tracking Weapons

Rules Questions

Is the range for tracking weapons only used for the TL check, or does it also affect distance travelled? If I fire a missile with a range of 20 and a speed of 12, on the second turn do I only get 8 hexes of movement (20-12) or does the missile continue to get the full 12 hexes of movement during successive Gunnery Phases until it either hits the target or misses its targeting check? If it keeps going, as I suspect, does it automatically fail its targeting, and become "lost" as the CRB describes it, if the original target passes outside the 20 hex range?

That range is for determining if you take penalties on the gunnery check, that’s all it is

Stated a different way, you get the full movement of the tracking weapon each round that it is on the board.

Thanks. That's the way I read RAW, but I wanted to be sure.
