The problem of trying to find a game, and where do you look for games?

Too many choices on how to play. Options are good, I know I play a shirren, but, tonight I thought I'd start making a list of all the places to look for games. The obvious place to look I figured are, here in the Paizo forums, Warhorn, Reddit, and Discord. These are all places to look regardless of how you plan the game, Live Play, VTT, or Play by Post.

I play PBP so I started looking for places listing PBP games first. I know there was a split in the PBP community between the Paizo Frouns and Discord, what I didn't know was there was more than one place on Discord to play PBP or sometimes called PBD.

In the Gameday XII Event PBP table listening in the tier 3-4 category there were 3 tables listed each only have 1 or 2 players, so looks like none of those tables had enough players to start the game. But combined they did, problem being there were all on separate platforms one on the forums and the other on separate Discord channels.

I don't use VTTs but know there are at least 3 That support Starfinder, Fantasy Grounds, Foundry, Roll20, and there's at lest one more in development.

So with so many different ways to play and different places to look for games combined no wonder it can be hard to find a game. I thought I'd make a list of all the places to look but quickly realized there were more than I thought there would be so will take longer to do.

So for now to get started I thought I'd ask everyone where, or how you look for games, and how are you looking to play the game, Live, VTT, or PBP? Do the VTT platforms have their own looking-for-games forums, Reddit, or Discord? Any other place to look I'm missing?

Some areas use Meet-up. As an in person player, once you figure out what the local community uses it's often pretty straightforward. However trying to figure out the local scene is actually quite difficult given the number of options. More experienced players might be willing to try and navigate the maze if they move (I had one do so a few months ago), but for a newer player it is definitely a reason people might leave the campaign.

Society Games map: Flat rolling surfaces

Clicking the dots should take you to whatever the group uses for a brain center : meet up, face book, a google page, IRC channel or whatever.]

Even if you're not looking for society games, someone there would know where to find the local games or the map should be a game store with a message board (real or virtual)

Roll20 HAS a looking for group option but no one seems to use it. Everyone there uses warhorn. (as a side note, roll20 has official support but doesn't really need it.

Warhorn is good but to use it, you ignore the games list, click the search button magnifying glass. Then click the games you want on the left. If you're picky about your VTT you can narrow that down too (I'm a roll20 shill but I can manage foundry)

WOW! So, I took a look at the Society Games map link. Then looked up my area. There are two stores listed. One, we still play at once a month. The other had closed and then reopened. We played one game there and then stopped. Not sure why or if we're going back. The location we play most of our games is not listed at all, but I figured clicking on the location would bring up our warhorn, which it did. What I saw at Warhorn was a really big surprise.

Currently, we have between 2 to 4 Pathfinder 2e games a month. The Worhorne linked to a calendar from 2017. There were 18 Pathfinder 1e games listed for the month. Looks like the Pathfinder edition change and the pandemic really wiped out our local player base here. I don't eve see any old listing for Starfinder games yet but haven't looked to deep into that.

For linking to Warhorne, it might be best to link to ta group's home page and not their calendar, which would need to be updated monthly to be up to date. Although my local group's home page looks out of date to but at least goes to the current calander.

2017 calander.

Most people do it themselves, But you can Give me a PM with which store and I can give it a poke.

But yeah. Doing a game finder geographically gets you "close enough for state work" even if you need to follow a few links to find the brain center.

I'd have to talk to my local Venture-Captain I know their locations are supposed to be changing sometime soon.

I didn't realize anyone could update that map. I'll let our Venture-Captain know. Can anyone remove old links that are out of date?

Yes but I'd rather err on the side of leaving an incorect trail of breadcrumbs that leads where you're going vs. accidentally deleting the trail.
