Story Time:

Faction tracking was initially included as part of a shadow war for Absalom plot that never really materialized.

The original 5 factions were all countries that bordered the Inner Sea (Andoran, Cheliax, Qadira, Osirion, Taldor) and they were all secretly vying for control over Absalom.

Originally in Season 0 each faction got a single mission that helped advance their objective in some manner. Completing that mission got you your 1 prestige (2 prestige per mission wasn't a thing until later).

Prestige earned was thus synonymous with progress on your faction's objectives, thus the need to track it.

--

Later it was used to help identify abnormally difficult scenarios. Sure some times people would get only 1 prestige due to slow track but if a scenario had an abnormal amount of 1 prestige reported it would show the secondary success condition might be too difficult, and an abnormal amount of 0 prestige reported would show a scenario that was likely too difficult.

Which would help tune the difficulty in future scenarios...

I'm now even more confused than I was before.

Can somebody describe the proper procedure to me?

The dm only fills out the bottom of the sheet and the parts on the right that have a gray box

Online I d also recommend filling in the top too

If that's everyone's take on it, then I'm happy. If it's not, then I'd rather not be set up to generate complaints by not giving out fully complete chronicles.

Removed a post and replies. Folks, there is no need to start swearing and even though we have a swear filter that "masks" the words, it really escalates the conversation dramatically in a way that is not helpful. I believe the conception behind the current change was to go to the system you describe: purchases between sessions OK, show the new GM what you purchased, no signature required. So, I think it was well conceived, but the writing ended up with something different.

Yep. You have the gist of it.

We didn't read the steps close enough. Goof on our end. Not that there will be a Guide 11, but we will note this for when we put the PFS v2 guide together.

Thank you for confirming this, when I heard about the change as written, I was not too thrilled about that (especially since I have never seen someone fill out the chronicle sheet according to the guide anyway).

Glad to hear that the practical approach I actually use seems to be fine ^^

I do appreciate the confirmation by Tonya.

I think in general, auditing every now and again is healthy for the players. There have been a wild amount of shall we say subtly illegal or misunderstood game mechanics and these moments of sitting down and reviewing records have been helpful for everyone involved. It's just finding the time to do it that's the challenge.

That said, I have two legal accordion files full of chronicles/boons/etc and I would basically IMPLORE you all to develop a more paper-light system for the future.

So, I just took the Chronicle Survey on the Playtest page - and it looks like they have some ideas to make chronicles worse. Part of the survey was inquiring about chronicles being made 1/2 or 1/3 sheet sized. I don't know if they've gotten complaints about how much paper is involved, or what, but I honestly can't imagine chronicle sheets, especially for some of the wordier boons, being smaller, ESPECIALLY in regards to the purchases.

I'm just saying, there's a huge cost we would all pay for a more 'paper-light' system - and I'm not sure it's worth it just to save some paper.

Of course, I did plug my Downtime Tracking Sheet in the comments of the survey - don't know if it will be seen or not.

They are also talking about using chronicles completely different from the way they are used now.
