Being at a higher level makes you safer while you sleep

Monsters and Hazards

Sleeping causes the following penalty: Flat-footed and a -4 conditional penalty to perception and AC. Being flat-footed gives you a -2 circumstance penalty to AC.

This means that a level 20 character has at least have an AC of 26 while sleeping

math:
(10+ 20(prof) -4(sleeping) -2(flat-footed)=26)

This character will only be hit by 5% of the commoners who stab at him while he sleeps. Peasants should truly fear the strongest of adventurers.

That's unbound accuracy for ya.

I suppose the next question is whether its possible for a mob of commoners to sneak up on a sleeping 20th level adventurer with a massive Perception check, even with sleep penalties? I'll be surprised if any of them got close enough to strike, let alone hit them!

A level 20 character is also a sort of demi-god, so it would be very unsettling if a commoner was able stab her in her sleep.

Yeah I’m seeing this as a feature, not a bug.

That should be AC 24, not 26.

Think about it like this, higher level characters are used to sleeping in dangerous areas. As such, they have gotten used to sleeping “with one eye open” while getting all of the benefits of a full nights reat. Additionally, their combat expertise allows them to unconsciously maneuver their body, to a certain extent.
