Missing Magic Items

Magic Items

I've noticed that some classic items are missing from the playtest. For example Handy Haversack, portable hole, boots of speed, Blessed Book, Figurines of Wondrous Power, Efficient Quiver and Wings of Flying. Is this because this is simply a playtest document and won't include all options, or are some of these items being removed? I certainly hope it's only the former and all will show up in PF2 (although I can understand if some don't make it into the core book for space reasons). I just hope it wasn't decided to remove things that were 'too powerful' or whatnot.

Pearl of Power too.

Blessed Book seems obsolete, Wings of Flying are too powerful and out of synch with the nerfing of speed and duration of flying options, there is some Halfing backpack thing that may be the new Haversack, and portable hole is probably too powerful or just not relevant to the theme of magic items they were trying for. A big hole in the ground is pretty boring.

I doubt pearls of power and pages of spellcasting will ever return with the new limits on magic.

There are quite a few we didn't include for space. I'm compiling the list of classic ones that seems like they ought to go back in, so I'll be checking in to see what folks have a soft spot for!

Good to know. I figured most were for space reasons. Is thre a list of items that are taken out deliberately?

As for ones I really want to see return are most of the ones I mentioned, especially the storage options. Portable holes are basically required party items for us. And the Handy Haversack and Efficient Quiver could be really useful in the new action economy with their quick retrieval features. Boots of speed would be even more useful considering the massive nerf Haste got in number of targets. And the pearls of power mentioned by others would also be great, magic is so limited now, every bit will help. Although I'd also prefer if the reductions of magic got dialed back considerably. I don't even play casters and it's painful to see how they've been hit from every angle.

I'm fond of the Kyton Ring, the Robe of Infinite Twine, and the Pathfinder's Pouch. A Spellstrike Rune (similar to the Conductive property) would also be well loved.

Ooo, if you are asking ... Here are a few that I would like to see return:

* (Seconding) Pathfinder Pouch -> useful for awkward, possibly dangerous manoeuvring with authorities. [Roleplay]
* Cloak of Treeform -> whilst not necessarily the most efficient item, it is thematic and is marked down as an indulgence that I want my current P.C. to obtain at some point. [Roleplay; Fun]
* Polymorphic Pouch -> a near necessity for those who utilize/enjoy form-changing, (e.g., Wild Shape, Dragon Form), especially if it is a key Class Feature. [Playstyle viability]
* Magic Tattoos -> these have always felt awkward to me, yet there are a few that I enjoy thematically and have/will try to make work in my current game. Perhaps an overhaul? (I adore my Witch's Intimidating attitude slowly building up to expanding options, being able to surprise enemies/Intimidate obstinate N.P.C.s with Strength increases via a Transmutation Spell, using a Weapon Tattoo to coalesce a gigantic Weapon from a shadowy design ...) [Roleplay; Fun; Playstyle]
* Ring of Curing -> it would need to be altered in-line with the new healing Spells to have progressive benefits, (i.e., increase with Heightening), but currently this helps my Party's non-Cleric Primary healer feel more dedicated and useful, instead of an unwanted substitute. [Playstyle viability; Effectiveness]
* Ring of Eloquence -> great as an early-mid. quest treasure find for when the G.M. wants to introduce Creatures that do not speak the Languages P.C.s understand, as a way for co-ordinating Combat whilst Polymorphed, or for enabling that sassy Familiar to communicate with the Party - perhaps even acting as a(n hilariously bad) translator for the Party! [Roleplay; Playstyle; Fun; G.M. utility]
* Corpse-Ferrying Bag -> purely thematic and a biased inclusion, [2] Gentle Repose and a Bag of Holding is much more effective. However, I do not see a few "fun" options as "trap" options, especially if it was made over the top ... ^.^ [Fun]
* Figurine of ... -> I admittedly find these a little awakward and have not dealt with more than one, but with rebalancing to the new game and a(n) Uncommon/Rare tag one of these could be an appealing reward to Party. [Fun; G.M. utility]

There are plenty more that I use/would like to use, yet they become more situational to my individual playstyle, or might be redundant with Rituals coming more to the fore, (despite being more fitting, such as a Cauldron of ...). Plus, the list would be really long. >.>

P.S.: Sorry if this is a little outside of what you are looking for/is too much of a tangent, not enough straight info.

Scarab Sages

Just browsing through the treasure section, it seems like arcane casters have a bit more item support available (ring of wizardry, robes of the archmagi, in particular) than other casting traditions. These are relatively mechanically powerful, and can mean a big difference between different casters of even the same class in the case of sorcerers. Is this intentional?

There isn't even a quiver in the normal equipment section even though there is a sheath.

I've already had a player try to buy the above item for one of the later parts of the adventure, but it's an Uncommon item and it isn't at all clear that the players can take those as part of the chapter setups. Well, it's clear in that Uncommon normally can't be taken... but then you read the section on GM awards and gets less certain.

Doomsday Dawn itself limits items to Common (unless I missed a switch at later levels.) PFS opens up a limited number of Uncommon items, depending on PC level. One of the devs (Mark?) mentioned that it's no sweat if you include Uncommon items & spells, as that would provide good playtest info too. So I guess you should tell them if you do?

ETA: I almost forget what I came to post!
Gauntlets of Ogre Power
Seriously, it was the first item I checked for to see if it'd finally returned to the mix. They are/were iconic. Now that I've learned of Potent items, I understand a Str boost is likely unfit, but maybe one to Athletics or that aids breaking? Or even gives an ability that's "Ogre-y", like count as large re: Bulk?
