Potion Pricing

Magic Items

Where can I find the rules for potion pricing? I've found pricing for very specific potions. But I can't find potions of healing (and am not sure what each potion would cost depending on heal level).

Potions are unique items rather than being spells with a price by level. You’ll find the healing potions starting on page 394!

Thanks! I thought they might be unique items, but I was confused by Barkskin Potion. I kept looking under "Potion" and "Potion of Healing" or "Potion of Barkskin".

It's interesting to see the difference between Minor Elixir of Life (1d6 HP or +1 item bonus to Fort saves for 1 hour) vs Healing Potion (1d8 HP). I'll be interested to see what players prefer.

I suspect they'll prefer to buy healing potions, but be happy to take minor elixirs of life that an alchemist in their party makes for free. :)

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I've always felt like cheap and widely available healing potions (or minor elixirs of life) were the key to killing the 15 minute workday and Clerics being press-ganged into being the group's healbot. The more different kinds of healing mechanics we can get into characters' hands through magic items or different classes, the better.

I'm happy about potions being divorced from being spells in a bottle. It allows you to tweak their effects and price points, and you don't have to get into the messy business of "Only spells that can be cast on self can be potions" etc.

I hope they include design guidelines for making custom potions, though.
