I think they'll probably have Ghost Salts and such again soon.
Though I wish they had put that in thise core along with silversheen.

They could bring back force bombs again, the damage might have been low but at least almost nothing resisted force.

@graystone They could just pickup a magic weapon and swing away at the enemy but at that point why exactly do alchemist's even have bombs? The real good insult to injury is there is a magic item that gives an item bonus to throwing bombs, Greater Alchemist Goggles, which give exactly a +2 item bonus which is what empower bomb already grants at 19th level. Its nice to have a magic item that benefits only non-alchemists who throw bombs.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Look just give us back Bomber's Eye, make it scale, keep it Insight based so it stacks with Item bonuses, and then maybe we won't be in that bad of a state when it comes to attack bonuses. Let's us keep up when it come to our bombs.

And give us back Targeted Bomb Admixture while we're at it!

I still feel they need at will Bomb use to even come close to being reasonable. Just getting extra uses of Alchemy from a new pool isn't going to cut it, an Alchemist is pretty terrible at weapons, fairly comparable to say a Wizard. But a Wizard has at will Cantrips to fall back on.

a wizard is quite a bit BETTER than alchemist at using weapons.

There's almost 0 alchemical support for weapons in the lachemical creations, while there a host of buffs (that actually stack and aren't Item bonuses that won't stack with your magical weapon) on the list.

Plus, arcane striker is a thing, while the alchemist has 0 options for a "martial" path.

I couldn't come up with a good answer to that, hence the suggestion to pick up a weapon and make healing items instead of bombs.

Sounds like a good argument for an alchemist to multiclass: electric arc at will looks better than bombs and doesn't cost resonance... Or fighter and pick up a heavy shield, martial weapon and heavy armor. Or a cleric... Pretty much anything is better than plain old alchemist.

alchemist/rogue worked for me as a skillmonkey, failed hard at "poisoning" stuff which was what he was made for though. But that was mainly because poisons were pretty much terrible at 10+ even when managing to apply them with Class DC (which took like 4 feats to pull it off).

For stupid reasons 50%+ of the monsters are still either outright immune, or highly resistant to poison (i though Developers would have figured by now that making most stuff immune to a ridicusly expensive consumable makes said consumables trash...). Even when not immune, Fort DC being a good 65%+ chance for the monsters to succeed AND wasting the poison even on a miss which was another good 45%+ chance even with flank makes poisons basiclally terrible.

He was pretty good at being a skillmonkey though (excpet being pretty terrible at perception)

Alchemist/fighter "mutagen build" worked well after level 8, needed at least 6 to even work, making low levels a pretty s@$#ty experience, and even after that, you have the whole "bomb" mechanic wasted because with low dex you're not hitting anything either way.

I see no point in alchemist/wizard. I mean, the alchemist's stuff isn't anything special compared to actual spells, so, if you want to go that route, why not pick up Wizard from the get go...

It's not like 2 cantrips and 1 daily spell/level (after like 4 feats again) will fix the class.
