Crossbow ace - clarification on "simple crossbow!

Classes

I might be reading too much into it but I think crossbow ace is a bit confusingly worded:

Crossbow Ace wrote:
When you use Hunt Target or when you use Interact to reload your crossbow, if your next Strike with that crossbow before the end of your next turn is against your hunted target, add half your Wisdom modifier to your damage roll; if you are firing a simple crossbow on a qualifying attack, also increase the damage dice on that attack by one size (see page 91).

What exactly is a "simple crossbow"? Is it all crossbows that are simple weapons (i.e. all crossbows)? Is it the crossbow that is just named "crossbow" as opposed to the heavy & hand crossbows?

If it's the former, then the wording is a bit redundant. If the latter, a bit confusing!

I took it to be crossbows that are simple weapons.

I think it means crossbows covered in the simple category. I think that is tail covering in case they introduce things like the oriental repeating xbows.

Yeah, this could use a little bit of clarification. If it did just mean regular (non-heavy, non-hand) crossbows, it would make heavy crossbows pointless for a Ranger. This would be cleared up if they changed the crossbow back to a "light crossbow".

On other news, I think the feat should add the full WIS mod, not just half.
Seems like a jank version of PF1 "Focused Shot".

I think it would be fine for Crossbow Ace to add full WIS mod and Propulsive to add full STR mod. Rogue gets to add their full DEX mod to damage, so I don't see why everyone else who gets to swap out a damage stat has to settle for half.

Correct! Damage is the one value in this game that is not so tightly controlled, as character sof same level can do wildly varying amounts! Enemy HP is high enough after a while that it can handle even the biggest d12 weapons decently well. Not to mention that the bulk of the damage rarely comes form ability scores anymore.

Adding big damage bonuses to stuff doesn't have such a huge impact because for proper DPT it has to be multiplied by the dismal chance to hit most characters have. A +2-3 boost would be very welcome at low levels but ultimately not be very impactful int he long run.

Why would someone ever take this feat anyway? You are still using a ranged weapon with the reload of 1 or maybe 2, when you could just pick up a bow with a reload zero?

The feat should just lower reload of crossbows and still give wis propulsive.
