My one main hope

My one main hope here is that the devs pay attention to what people actually say does and doesn't work mechanically and thematically, instead of to the dozens or hundreds of predictable people who already had their hate posts ready before the book was even a few hours old.

I like what I've seen of the new system so far. And I don't want a bunch of whiners ruining it for me (and us).

If something actually doesn't work, then okay. Work to fix it.
But I hope the game isn't being changed or tweaked based off of all the first-person-shooter gamers whining that they got "nerfed."

I think someone would have to have thick skin to work in this industry. To work on something earnestly for 2 or 3 years, and have people knock it down within a few hours.
I am sure there are some things I'll run into that I'm not used to. But so far, I'm just excited about all of it.

Yeah, the nitpicking is really annoying, especially the ridiculous hyberbole such as "x class is useless" which are posted before anyone has had time to learn rules and try them out

Yea. People posting how "useless" such-and-such is from just flipping thru the book, and they haven't even rolled up the character and played it thru the rules yet.
Jeez, people. TRY it out. Don't read and summarily dismiss. That's not the kind of feedback that is really constructive.

Many people (myself included) are making "first impression" type comments.

Clearly these ARE first, untested, impressions. And should be seen as such (I've certainly seen no show stoppers yet).

But, first impressions ARE important. Many a customer (either now or next year) is going to see the book in a store, glance through it quickly, and decide whether or not to buy the product.

Hit enough of that persons "hot buttons" and they're likely to neither buy nor try the game.

Paizo almost certainly expects a massive wave of first impressions. People being what they are they're likely to be largely negative. If they have the time, they really should look at them to find common themes and consider addressing those common themes.

People who are upset are more likely to post, so we're going to see a lot more of those. They're also more likely to fill out surveys, and I suspect that the surveys will be more of a decision factor. So, it seems like filling out the surveys will be even more important for those who like the new system.

Personally, D&D has run rampant in my gaming circle, and I'm hoping that PF2 changes that. Thus far, Starfinder is the only RPG that I can get anyone to play other then 5e, so I'm really hoping that PF2 looks more like Starfinder than PF1 because I can't get anyone to even look at PF1. All my major complaints about 5e (locked in race/class combinations, very little or no class customization, overly simplified skills and combat actions, magic-less characters at a severe disadvantage, etc, etc) are address with PF2 as it stands right now, so I'm hoping for less change to the content than others.

Overall, I'm super stoked for this since PF2 seems to fall right in between Starfinder (slightly complex) and 5e (overly simplified) which, I think, is the right place to be to get converts (it's certainly going to make easier for me, and I'm so sick of 5e that I'm desperate for an alternative).

And I don't want a bunch of pollyannas trying to suppress any negative feedback and try to drive people away from the playtest before it has even started, so I guess that makes us even.

Because "whiner" and "polyanna" are the only two possible options?

And while both sides could stand to dial back the hyperbole, I think the doom-and-gloom crowd is noticeably worse atm (which I suppose is to be expected). It's just that one can only read things like "I'll never give Paizo another cent!" or "Pathifinder is dead to me!" so many times without rolling one's eyes.

The Exchange

Respectfully, I disagree with OP.

I've seen and ran about 2 dozens RPG systems. I can get the jist of a system in one read-thru. I'm not claiming system mastery yet but I can see some things at first glance like:

- half-elf and half-orc look like a feat tax.
- +level bonus on every roll are totally cancelled by +level bonus on every roll of monsters and/or NPCs. It just help to give impressive numbers (my 19th level paladin rolled a 45 on his to hit!.. it missed because that was actually a 7 on the d20)

and so I think constructive criticism can be given within 24 hours of the launch.

and so far, I'm seeing the D&D 4th debacle looming.

But I haven't read everything yet. I'm still in the classes chapter.

Ideally we all could express our sentiments and doubts and reactions without someone else calling the other side "whiners" or "polyannas" or actively expressing their hope that they stop posting on the boards.

And, yeah, more people have an upset and negative reaction at their first glance than there are people who are giving their thumbs up. That might change with a more complete understanding of the rules or it might not. Either way, it's good for Paizo if they can gauge how people react to what they have produced. But far it's decidedly a mixed bag and that's also valuable feedback for the devs.
