Spells Dealing with Object Hardness and HP

Rules Questions

Are there any spells that explicitly deal with enhancing or reducing an object's hardness, regardless of substance? I'm thinking of homebrewing a spell that temporarily reinforces wooden and stone walls.

On the same note of homebrewing magic for objects, what spells are there other than Mending that fix objects? I seem to remember there being at least one more.

Make whole, greater make whole, and memory of function are all the ones I know of.

If you happen to want to enhance an object's hardness/hp check out fortifying stones. (Probably won't help with walls as there's a 100 lb limit.)

Hardening is a favorite for the permanent duration. Also it might be the only spell to increase hardness?

Thanks, those all help!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

There's also Hammer of Mending which heals 1d6 damage to a 30' burst centered on where you strike the ground. If you're homebrewing, perhaps get special dispensation to add this to key structural points on walls, gates, etc with a Permanency spell and a lot of GP. Suddenly you've got walls that regenerate at least 9d6/round after they take damage, unless utterly destroyed (reduced in one shot to 0 HP).

the most awesome item for fortifications is the olde Lyre of Building.

Hardening was a problem in PFS so it got banned.

Hold Portal adds 5 to the break DC of a door/portal for CstrLvl min.
Blood Armor increases AC up to +5 for CstrLvl min.
Mage Armor... yeah a bit over the top at +4AC for CstrLvl hrs but a standard spell.

Honestly Make Whole should have had a Gold Piece limit and 10*CstrLvl cu ft is very generous.

Here are some more...

Brittle Portal:
antipaladin 2, cleric/oracle 2, druid 2, inquisitor 2, sorcerer/wizard 2, witch 2
1 round/level
This spell weakens the bonds of existence, and reduces the hardness of any nonmagical surface within its area of effect by 2 per caster level. The spell is centered on a flat surface chosen by the caster, and the hardness reduction effect persists for the duration of the spell.

Hairline Fractures:
cleric/oracle 1, druid 1, witch 1
1 round/level
With a single touch, you create temporary hairline fractures in a piece of stone or a creature with the earth subtype. If you cast this spell on a section of stone, you reduce its hardness to 5 and its hit points to 10/inch of thickness. If you cast this spell on a creature with the earth subtype, that creature takes a -2 penalty to AC for the spell's duration. Make whole reverses this spell's effect.

Rags To Riches:
alchemist 3, bard 3, cleric/oracle 4, medium 3, occultist 3, sorcerer/wizard 4, witch 4
10 minutes/level
The target object is enhanced to function as a masterwork item. In addition to any bonuses for the masterwork quality, the object gains other bonuses. Skill kits and other equipment add an additional +1 insight bonus for every 4 caster levels you possess to skill checks made with them that already receive a bonus from the skill kit. Armor and weapons gain temporary hit points equal to your caster level. If the object already has an enhancement bonus, this bonus increases by 1. If the object of the spell has hardness, that hardness increases by 5.

Reinforce Armaments:
cleric/oracle 1, magus 1, sorcerer/wizard 1, witch 1, occultist 1
10 minutes/level
You reinforce a weapon or armor suit to give it a temporarily upgrade or mitigate the fragile quality (see page 146). A suit of armor or weapon touched that has the fragile quality is not considered to have the fragile quality for the spell's duration. Normal armor suits or weapons subjected to this spell instead gain the masterwork quality for the spell's duration and their hardness is doubled. If this spell is cast on masterwork or magical armor or weapons, their hardness is doubled for the duration of the spell.

don't forget rune of durability 3rd level spell that double your weapon hp permanently.

For treating walls to make them harder, check out the magical enhancement Magically Treated Hull, and the entries surrounding them. This will give you a working value to the enchantment you can use to price fixing up walls.
