I was thinking dermal plating. But DR 5/- vs DR 2/-. Although I was thinking picking up the armor upgrade that gives Temp HP. I have a friend that doesn't care too much for HP at higher levels. Says you probably will get hit so no point investing in it when you can invest else where. I love my jetpack. Although not a fan of the flying rules and the facing etc.

Dark vision seems so easy to get in Starfinder.

I recommend Enhanced Resistance feat for DR rather than the DR 5 Armor Upgrade for a soldier, especially since you're not feat starved. Now for a non-solider, the Deflective Reinforcement may be very attractive since you're not getting an additional DR every level like you are as a soldier.

I am going to shell out for the Yellow Star Nova Lance, but only because I still have that 20% discount boon for a weapon and I want a reach weapon that targets EAC. The extra damage is nice and everything, but, as an Armor Storm Vesk it isn't that much better than just using some version of my fists.

As someone who is planning on standing in front taking hits, I need Enhanced Resistance and the best armor I can get (which means using the Tier 2 Exo-Guardians boon to buy armor from the core book at +2 to my level). My armor slots are way more important than a weapon for the same reason: I need defenses for standing in front.

Anyway, I appreciate the Armory for giving me a lot of options at every level. Basically, I looked for something within level+1 (Exo-Guardians boon again) that targeted EAC, used two hands (planning on getting Improved Unarmed Strike to be able to unarmed attack while my hands are full), was analog or used rechargeable batteries instead of fuel that I would have to purchase between missions (sorry Meteor Glaive), and wasn't creepy (looking at you, Shadow Chains).

So that ruled out pretty much everything except the Nova Lance. If the Armory didn't have a ridiculous number of options, I might not have had such a salubrious selection process.

As a melee soldier I get hit often, but that's precisely why DR is so good. During Save the Renkrodas it prevented 50 damage in one fight. We would have had a very hard time with that fight without the extra staying power.

I've seen posts suggesting Enhanced Resistance might be nerfed. I agree it's amazing, and I plan every full-BAB character of mine to take it. Which is probably why it's being considered for a downgrade.

If it did get nerfed per the rules for retraining when nerfs happen you'd be able to take it back for free. I wouldn't avoid taking it because it may potentially be nerfed in the future.

This suggestion of nerf likely comes from a comment from Mark Seifter early after release where he noted that this feat doesn't match the original intent, but since the comment is almost a year old now with no nerf is sight while surviving multiple errata FAQs, I don't worry too much about it, personally.
