If the players are hiking through the wilderness looking for a ruin, how long does it take to search a square mile to see if its there?
If the players are hiking through the wilderness looking for a specific object, such as a dead body, dropped item, or a hiding fugitive, how long would that sort of search take per square mile?

one cut scene
but seriously there are so many variables; density of foilage, is the item covered/obscured or in the open, time of day, speed of the characters searching, etc...
As a GM I'd pick an appropriate amount of time based on a Perception or Survival roll and go from there. RL search parties can spend a day looking through a handful of square miles looking for a missing person, so again I'd base it off the need of the game.

I think kingmaker has rules for this for searching map tiles n such
specifically Table: Exploration Time
note that 1 hex is ~95 square miles.
If they are looking for something specific, I'd take into account Perception and Survival skills. If it isn't a time sensitive search, they can take 20.

Thank you, I appreciate that.
