Orcs and Tieflings

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

This question popped into my head the other day, and I thought I would share it here. What do Orcs think about Tieflings?

Since many Orc tribes worship demon lords, would a Tiefling born into an Orc tribe be revered as a sign from their patron? Or feared as some kind of curse? I could equally imagine an Orc tribe being lead by a red skinned, horned chieftain who made his way to the top through 'unholy favor', and a mob of fearful Orcs tossing the 'cursed' baby and mother off a cliff to avoid the disfavor of their angered patron. But I can't really decide which would be more likely.

Anyone care to share their thoughts?

I don't think orc tieflings would be shunned, but they wouldn't be given extra favors either. They would still need to prove their strength and skill to get to a leadership position, and to stay on top. They are similiar in that to half-orcs, who often lack the strength of a pure-breed orc, but are more cunning. Half-orcs can live among orcs, as so do tieflings.

Only if their tiefling heritage makes them look frail (like in the case of grimspawn) the child may be abandoned, and the mother may be shunned for giving birth to a weak child. But i don't think that the mother would be killed just for giving birth to a weird baby.

There is a few items that might help answer your question.

In short, it's complicated! So do as you need!

As a player? An Orc tribe is not likely to out of hand kill mother/babe, go forth an wreck havoc and woe as an Orc Flavored Tiefling.

it would depend on what the DM wants, and how horrific they want their orcs to be.

for me, i would think that most tiefling-orcs would be murdered as babes for being disfigured and "wrong".

i can also see devil-orcs being venerated by devil-worshipping orc tribes.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I know a bunch of orcs revere Rovagug, so the possibility of a qlippoth/orc hybrid is there. Man, that’d be terrifying as hell.
