ANNOUNCING PLAY-BY-POST GAMEDAY VII

EVENT #686641
Main Listing: PbPGameday.com.
Reporting Link: https://pbpgameday.com/reporting.php
When: August 13, 2018-November 12th, 2018

★ ---- ★ ---- ★ ---- ★

Hey Gang!

We’re excited to announce the next PBP Gameday. This year, we’ll not only be kicking off Season Ten for PFS, but also continuing Season One of Starfinder! We are also open to GMs running sessions of the Playtest & ACG adventures if they wish.

Signups open today. In order for your game to count, it must start on or after August 13th, and end on or before November 12th.

If you need scenario support, you must register your game by June 25th.

SESSION I:

  • Session I will run from August 13th, 2018-September 30, 2018.
  • During this session, we’ll be running the specials Solstice Scar C run by Overseer Dennis and the Starfinder Special Scoured Stars Invasion run by Overseer Tyranius.
  • GMs who are interested in GMing for our Solstice Scar or Scoured Stars Invasion should fill out PBP Gameday VII Specials GM Application.
SESSION II:
  • Session II will run from October 1-November 12th.
  • During this session, we’ll be running Assault on Absalom, including ACG Tables.
  • GMs who are interested in GMing Assault on Absalom should fill out PBP Gameday VII Specials GM Application.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Here are the basics:

How do I sign up to GM?

Go to PbPGameday.com. The front page contains a list of tables that are currently signed up in addition to a link at the bottom to register a table as a GM. If you are GMing a table, create a campaign thread before registering your game so that you can include a link to your table.

Note: if you are interested in GMing a Special, please fill out our PBP Gameday VII Specials GM Application. We require that all those who GM a special to have some prior experience with GMing Play-by-Post! GMing PBP is fun, but specials are too time-pressured an environment to learn the techniques of a new format! Instead, GM something else with us, and then apply for the next set of specials we offer.

When are those other specials, you ask? We have RetroCon in January, and OutPost in March! Here is our list of planned events this year!

How do I play?

Where can I play?

We have three other official PbP Lodges available (for RPG games only):

★ ---- ★ ---- ★ ---- ★

EVEN MORE QUESTIONS!

Will there be Pathfinder 2 Playtest games to play?
We certainly hope so. If GMs sign up to run such games, there will be some.

Will there be ACG?
There will be ACG in Assault on Absalom. In addition, Box Runners are welcome to run ACG adventures during PBP Gameday VII if they wish.

Why the two Sessions?
This allows us to schedule more games and organize the specials properly.

Will you have two scenario support deadlines this year?
No. It was an administrative headache for our staff. If you want to run something in session two for which you wish support, please sign up for it now.

What do you mean by scenario support?
Paizo will gift you the scenario that you wish to run — if you sign up by our deadline. You can apply for regular scenarios, ACG scenarios or even a module. Not included: APs or Emerald Spire.

If you need scenario support, you must register your game by June 25th.

I want to run a long module. Can I run the game so that runs over both Session I and into Session II?
Sure. The division of Session I and Session II will only matter to those GMing the specials.

Will there be boons for Players and GMs?
Absolutely. This is a convention for which you don’t have to leave home.

Can I participate if I am new to Play-by-Post?
Certainly! Just let your GMs and Players know. They’ll be glad to help.

How many games can I sign up to GM?
While we set no hard limit on this, we want you to be able to pay attention to all your games and show your players a good time. If this will be your first ever time GMing PbP, we strongly recommend that you only do one game at a time. It’s more work than it looks.

Table [put number in here] is currently full, but it’s marked open. How do I fix that?
Post in this thread and let us know. We will get those tables updated if you tell us!

Is there a limit on how many specials / exclusives I can GM at any given time?
Yes. At any given time, each GM can only GM either:

  • One table of a multi-table special - or -
  • One table of a star-gated exclusive game like Serpent’s Rise, Serpent’s Ire, True Dragons of Absalom or Maelstrom’s Rift.
  • Because there are two sessions, you could sign up to GM a Special in Session 1 and Assault on Absalom in Session 2.
GMs who are interested in GMing for our specials should fill out PBP Gameday VII Specials GM Application.

How many games can I sign up to play?
Right now, you may only sign up to play up to 3 RPG games. Why this limit? In order to give newcomers and people in other time zones a couple weeks to sign up for games. We’ll lift this hard cap in July. On July 1st, you may sign up for as many games as you think you can reasonably handle. We recommend that you don’t overcommit if you have not played PbP before. Sign up for one or two games, and enjoy them.

I want to play in the Special. When will you open the seats for signup?
We will open up seats of the Special on July 1st, when everyone can sign up for everything.

> Here’s where you can sign up for seats in the Special! <
(Note: you won’t be able to edit this form until July 1st. We’re just providing the link so that everyone can find it easily.)

Wah! Why do you have so few tables of the Special? I won’t get a seat!
Don’t panic! We will be starting with only a few tables each of Scoured Stars Incident and Solstice Scar C. We’re doing this so that we can better respond to demand, and so that we don’t overschedule tables. For each special, we’ll have a waitlist. Here’s how we’ll be adding extra tables.

  • Before July 1st, we open up priority seating to the GMs of the Specials who provide our tables.
  • On July 1st, we’ll have our initial listing to see which choices the players pick.
  • If the tables are full, please add yourself to the waitlist of the special you want. Being on the waitlist is the best way to get a seat in the special. List the character you prefer to play — if we can’t fill a table at your tier, we’ll give you the option of coming in with another character.
  • You may sign up for ONE special as a player in EACH session. (Remember that you can only choose to play Solstice Scar C or Scoured Stars Invasion in Session One.)
  • We’ll fill new tables from the player wait list.
  • On July 9th, based on demand, we may add a few extra tables of any special that proves popular.

ONE FINAL QUESTION:

Why doesn’t the PBP GAMEDAY SITE list the most current scenarios? I want to run the new scenarios for PFS, SFS, Playtest and ACG!

We’re getting those scenarios entered as fast as we can. Give us a couple days and we should be completely updated. If you still don’t see the scenario listed that you want to GM, let us know in three days!

★ ---- ★ ---- ★ ---- ★

Thanks for all your patience! We’re looking forward to seeing you join us in PBP Gameday VII!

Maybe this time I will tone it down on workload...maybe.

What about running a PF2 playtest game but homebrew module? Any support for that? Boons or stuff for the players?

Cool! I'm exited for a game as my only current one is moving very slow.

Gah...first night back on overnight shift got my brain all sorts of mush..other mighty fine GMs.

Sort of irritated that I was told there wasn't con support to run MTS in January because of the cap on how many events could be supported, so I discontinued the community Multis - and now there's a different con announced for January...

Anyhow.

I note on the game registration sheet that Starfinder only lists the first 3 SFS Scenarios and also doesn't have Skittershot, could we get that fixed?

Lantern Lodge 4/5 5/5

On the SFS front, I know you are adding extra scenarios, but I could I ask we get place holders for the July and August releases as well (and maybe September not that they are listed on the paizo site yet.., for the slot 2).

01-16 Dreaming of the Future
01-17 Reclaiming the Time-lost Tear
01-18 The Blackmoon survey
01-19 To Conquer the Dragon
01-20 Duskmire Accord 9
01-21 Yesteryear's Sorrow

Thanks for pulling this together for the community, I know it is a ton of work.

I got told the convention cap lifted from two for PBP to three. We also got told no ‘single event’ specials, so we are running several small specials that are different, a few tables of each. So... We’re throwing another convention in there. They’re an extension of your community multis, three small runs of specials. I was seriously thinking of naming it Shifty Con in your honor, but we went with a more generic ‘Retro Con’ instead. Are you still looking to oversee, Shifty? If so, we would welcome you with open arms!

ADDING YET ANOTHER QUESTION!

Hilary Moon Murphy wrote:

What?! Only five-six days for a scenario support deadline? Hilary, are you nuts?

Given that many GMs (like me, actually) cannot yet signup to run the most recent scenarios to the PBP Gameday form, I’m extending the scenario support deadline listed above for everything but the Specials.

  • If you wish to GM in a Special, fill out the Specials Application by June 25th. The earlier, the better. We are going to start selecting GMs in the next few days.

  • If you are looking to GM anything else, we are extending your scenario support deadline to July 8th to give everyone some breathing room, while we get the PBP Gameday VII form populated with new scenarios and the new modules — including free RPG day.

I also see there are a lot of other questions in here. I promise to get to them soon!

Thank you, and keep posting questions!

Interesting question. I’m going to say no to this, Hitomi, though. Here are my reasons:

1) The developers are trying to get us to test specific things with the adventures that they want us to run, and they have a theme of questions for each specific adventure.

2) This is an organized play convention. Although homebrew games were offered at PaizoCon as lottery tables, none of those games were eligible for Organized Play GM & player boons.

Sorry to give you the bad news.

We’re looking into this one, Gayel, and we’ll let you know. Our considerations:

1) Availability of back-up GMs who know French — we’re already asking around
2) Translating and other prep for the Overseer posts.

Still, if we can make this happen, we’ll give it our best shot.

That's okay. I'm not worried about it for myself, but I expect players to ask, and possibly lead players to not play who otherwise would.

But I'll not run a premade module for this, as paizo's focus is opposite of mine, and the whole point is to see how well the system runs beyond paizo's focus.

4e and 5e both have dropped the key features of d20, and I'm desperately hoping paizo doesn't follow suit.

Question:
Do we need to sign up for both Different specials for Assault and Solsitce?

We can just add in a link for tables as I currently own most of the scenarios I'll like to put up.

How are we doing recruitment for Gameday? Outpost had a master spreadsheet that I think worked reasonably well; I could see at a glance where there were seats available.

But it looks like GMs are already setting up Gameday campaign threads, and are getting oversubscribed. If we end up with lots of lotteries for seats, I worry that some people are going to miss out on everything.

(I plan to run one or two games).

Thanks for your feedback, guys!

No master spreadsheet for PBP Gameday, alas! This has always been our ‘run what you want’ convention — and it has a very long and chaotic tradition. (When I did the feedback for OutPost, most of my complaints were from GMs who hated that we told them what to run!) However, you will see Master Spreadsheets for the tables of the Special, for RetroCon and when OutPost cycles back in. Spreadsheets are not going away!

One of the things that may be happening here is that a lot of GMs have applied for our Specials, and are waiting to see if they get in before deciding what they’re going to run. We got over 50 GM applications to process!

Stay patient! I suspect we’ll see most of our tables show up after July1st and before July 8th (our scenario support deadline.)

Hmm

Sovereign Court 5/5

Hmmm No master spreadsheet might also make it difficult for ppl to start finding games as they will be oversubscribed.

I'll love to play in some games but looking at the numbers of players, I feel inclined not to fight for that small amount of spaces.....

and woah. That's a lot of GM applications.....

There are two parts to this question. I’ll answer both.

Is there a deadline to submit scenarios if you are buying your own?

Nope! Some GMs submit new scenarios immediately upon finishing the prior scenario. One speedy GM last year submitted a new scenario every 3 weeks as he was going through a series.

Can I sign up to run INFINITY tables?

Although we have set no official limit, know this. We’ll be nervously watching any GM who runs more than six games simultaneously. We recommend that brand new GMs do only one or at most two games at a time. I do not want a repeat of the issue we had one year where one GM had real life happen — and we had to find replacement GMs for 25 games. Please, know your limits!

Well, sorry, I wasn't clear on that last question. I was more asking about a *global* limit on how many tables will be accepted overall, from any GM whatsoever, and if so would I need to worry about getting in under that limit. You answered the question anyway :) and the answer is friendly to my situation of waiting to see what I want to run, because I'm only just about to begin GM'ing on the boards (in Redalia's school, etc, etc). Given that, my personal limit is going to be pretty low to start: likely one table per session.
