Re-skinned Vordakai

Kingmaker

So, in order to have my players flummoxed, I am redoing Vordakai's class levels as a necromancer. I did add the standard create undead spells to the class' spelllist so that will help explain how he created the undead in his lair, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for an undead creature of CR 6 or less that Vordakai can summon in battle (the summon undead those necromancers get are different than the normal summon undead spells; they can summon undead of a given CR level instead of specific undead creatures).

I am not looking for spellcasting undead or those with a lot of spell-like abilities (as those are a pain to make in Roll20) but battlefield control and debuffs are good. My players' pcs are mythic so I want to really give them a strong challenge.

Thanks for any suggestions! Cheers!

Have you considered a variant of the Centaur Raav - it certainly fits with the campaign setting. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/undead/centaur-raav/

Although I would probably go with something like a reskinned Exiled Shade. I prefer the idea of incorporeal summoned undead, rather than something physical, like the centaur - it is more like he is calling on some sort of necromantic power to send him a spirit-servant - and means you don't have to rework some of the other areas quite so much :)

I looked at it and I got the impression that it is weak for its CR. I know Vordakai (at least this version) has a few boosts to improve combat effectiveness so may help out. Although CR 7 is a bit too high (he young template can bring it down to 6.)

I am going to keep looking - keep those suggestions coming! :)

Ones that jump out at me:

Apostasy Wraith, depending on the group. (CR6)
Attic Whisperer, doesn't make much sense but I have to include them because I find them deliciously creepy. (CR4)
Berbalang, could be a sage to Vordakai. (CR5)
Crypt Thing, would make sense, especially if you turn it into a cyclops. (CR5)
Deathweb, but the poison might make the fight too difficult. (CR6)
Giant Phantom Armor, if you want something to (probably fail while trying to) pound on the PCs. (CR4)
Ragewight, could be someone from Varnhold. (CR6)

Hm, the crypt thing looks fun! While the apostasy wraith and ragewights are challenging encounters to throw at mythic pcs, it would be too much for my players. Even though they are mythic, the pcs do not have access to classes with 9th level spells. The only spellcasters in the group are an alchemist and a hunter. The primary healer in the group is a paladin. Dealing with with a lot of energy draining is more like punishing them so I try not to overwhelm them with it. I like the Giant Phantom Armor - even though they're not individually tough, Vordakai can beef them up a bit and they are sturdy enough just to soak the pcs' resources! Thank you!

I am also going to look at 3PP for additional possible encounters so if anyone already know of some suitable monsters, please share! :)

Cheers!

I'm extremely late to the party, almost certainly to useful to help out OP, but for any others in a similar position, I wanted to point out that a Skeleton animated from the remains of a Juvenile Silver Dragon (13 HD) would be CR 6, and would also be highly thematic.

Shadow Lodge

I went and built a Cyclopes crypt thing with the bodyguard feat for my game but that is a good point on the silver dragon
