Hello everyone!
If you haven't seen it in another thread, we're now recruiting players for our first online convention for the PACG, Cards Against Gnomanity! We have 23 tables worth of box runners ready to run games for you all, so get signing up!
Cards Against Gnomanity Signup Sheet

An update on the signups so far, we currently have 59 characters signed up to play, with 3 tables totally full and a few with only one or two seats left. We have only created one table of higher than tier 1, and so far we only have one player signed up for that table, so if you're interested in playing a Tier 4 adventure, jump in and grab a seat at that one! Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but here goes...

If I'm going to have trouble with an online PACG con, it's with the deckhandler/posting details. I suspect that a number of first-timers are reluctant to participate based on this issue, but it could also be that summer vacations are in full swing.

As practice, I downloaded the handler and player instructions and played around with the file. I can draw a card, but then I run into trouble. When I type the name of the drawn card into the Hand column, I get a #VALUE! error that doesn't go away.

Notes:

I get the same error on an ancient laptop and newer desktop, both PCs. Also, CTRL-SHIFT-V doesn't appear to do anything on either computer. Of course, there is one factor common to both computers: me. :)

The instructions don't really state how to draw a second card. Is the drawn card box supposed to automatically repopulate over and over again, or do I keep deleting/typing "1" in the yellow box? Something else?

You might want to set up a special thread for technical problems - and advertise its location - just so the BRs/GMs don't have to handle these problems individually.

It might also be useful to have a Test thread so that participants can practice posting, rolling dice, etc., before the official con gets underway.

Hi wkover:
It sounds to me like you're copy-pasting formulas when you really want to paste values only. Though... are you just typing the name of the card in? If that's the case, you definitely shouldn't be getting a #VALUE! error.

I'm happy to make a thread for issues, but what about something a bit more live-action? We have a Discord server set up that includes an ACG section, would you be able to jump over there and ask your questions? ACG Chat Discord

If not, then perhaps PM me a share link to your version of the sheet, and I can look it over.
Tyler

Yeah, I'm just typing the name of the card in. No cutting/pasting.

Uh, there's a way to PM someone on this forum? :) I'll try that or the Discord thing.

You can PM on these forums, but you have to have the option to RECEIVE PMs turned on. Click on My Account, then Account Settings, then under Privacy Settings, check the box that says "Members of paizo.com may send me private messages" and click Save. Then you should be able to go to my profile page and click "Send Private Message". :)

Great, thanks. I'll PM as soon as my checkbox settings are confirmed. (My change is "pending confirmation"...)

FWIW, I'm not sure that the randomization is working correctly for me either. I think I'm always drawing the first card listed on the "Don't Look" page.

To everyone else: Don't let my Excel ineptitude scare you away from my table(s). I promise to protect you with Radovan, steal your stuff with Nok Nok, deflect damage in your direction with Linxia, or something equally as helpful.

Did you download it as an Excel file? You shouldn't do that; it's built to be used online in Google Sheets. When I download and import it to Excel I see the same things you are (the formulas break).

Yes, I think this is the problem. Thanks everyone...

Note: You might put a warning about offline use in the instructions sheet, just so I don't make the same mistake twice. :)

If you're looking for an Excel version, send me a PM with your email address & I can send you a copy. I've made formula adjustments to make it work because I prefer using Excel. Plus I was planning to make a bunch of other modifications to the sheets & wanted my own version for that purpose, but I haven't had time to do much besides update the formulas to work in Excel.

Kiya, once you're comfortable with the changes you've made, if you would be willing to share your offline version for people, I think it would be very helpful to offer both. This will all be moot when we get the character part of the new database all up and runnning, but for this upcoming event at least, it could be very useful. :)

Sure! I'll send you a copy this afternoon. My husband & I have been using it for a while, so it's definitely working. There's a few things I was thinking might be nice to add, but nothing necessary. If I ever get around to updating it, I can always send you a new copy. :)

FWIW: back when we were playing in OutPost I started doing some of my own customizations, mostly around having the character information built into the sheet so you could just check things off. I didn't quite finish getting everything in there, but here's a link to it if you want to take a look:

Deck Handler, Modded

The offline deckhandler provided by Kiya Toren works great. Thanks again to KT and everyone else.

Looking forward to playing.

If it's OK with everyone, I'll start a test thread soon to practice posting, rolling, etc. Unless there's a faraway corner of the Paizo forums where I should go instead.

Test thread should be fine! Just make sure to include something like "[TEST POST THREAD]" in the title so people know it's nothing important for them. :)

I haven't gotten the chance to look at Kiya's sheet yet, but plan to today, and will share it here via a Dropbox link after I check it over. :)

Done! Thanks.

By the way, is there a separate signup deadline for CAG? (A few days before July 9?) Or is the signup deadline the same as the start date? (July 9)

That's a great question! Let's say July 6th at 11:59 PM Eastern time, so that I will have a few days to get all the players any information they might need before we actually start the games.

Should anyone want another modded version, I started playing around with the spreadsheet Parody created to learn what Sheets can do and made a few changes. I didn't delve deep into the character creation but did want something to display errors if found. Please note that I am still in the process of refining it, so if one finds it useful and finds a problem, please let me know.

Deck Handler, Modded by Zalarian

Changes I have made include the following:

  • Updated card counts to take cards on top into consideration
  • Added warnings when certain fields are being edited
  • Added warnings when dupes or unrecognized cards are found
  • Added a way to easily number cards available for other players to use as well as specify at which point to confirm.
  • Added additional spoilers to show contents of buried, discarded, and the like

Sample below:

I can't speak for all tables, but I wanted to state enthusiastically that the first week of CAG has been great fun. Many thanks to the organizers, box runners, Paizo, and everyone else involved.

Looking forward to Gameday VII as well. Speaking of which, we could use a Divine player to round out Hawkmoon's table in Session 2 (link). Feel free to join. :)

Update: PACG for Gameday VII looks all booked up now. (There is a waitlist, though.)

Yep, slots for the Assault on Absalom special are full for the moment, but if we get a few people adding themselves to the wait-list, we may add another table. So don't be shy, stick yourself on the wait-list!

(If it helps - in the link above - the ACG Gameday VII waitlist is in the middle column below all of the yellow tables. It has a blue header.)

Not sure if there will be a Gnomanity wrap-up, but we had a great time from beginning to end. Thanks again to everyone involved.
