Old story time.... (yeah, bored at work again)...
I've pulled this scene several times now, with different PCs...
In a scenario with a "local thug" encounter, where the PCs are confronted by "hired thugs" intended to warn them off of their research, we capture several of the thugs and are questioning them.

The judge has run several scenarios for some of me not to long ago, and know how my PC deals with captured Mooks so... so he knows how my PC likes to handle the "Gather Information from the Thugs" checks (we often have several "new" Players in the group though). So the "interviews" go something like this....

Me in Character voice: "So Mook, we meet again!"
Mook #417: "Yeah, if'n I'd knowed it was yous, I might not've takkan dis job".
Me in PC voice: "and how's the wife? and the little mooks? three isn't it?"
Mook #417: "same oh-same oh, off visitin' her mum again in Durma, and the lil ones is growin' like weeds..."
Me: glancing at the other mooks - stabilized and waiting their turn "So, does the local Thugs Union have ok Medical benefits? Looks like you guys will need it. Wait, you're Rent-A-Thug aren't you?"
Mook #417: "Not w'at it used ta be, w'at wit da cut backs and all. Eco'nam'c downturn day say... Had to switch over to Thugs-are-Us."
Me: "Tell ya what Mook, I'll pop for a couple charges off my happy stick when we're done here..."
Mook #417: "Hay, you're all ri't! T'anks!"
Me: "No problem! Least I can do. Now, about the guy who hired you..."

All this while the other players just watched. After all, I said my guy was the "Face"...

When I note to the judge that I was marking off a wand charge for each of the Mooks, often one of the other players also offers to chip in on the healing... "heck, they put up a good fight for Mooks! I wouldn't mind working with them again!"

One thing i should mention- I actually got to say hi to HMM at PaizoCon this year. She truly is a gnome. From my vantage point [i'm 6'6"] i'm surprised i saw her name badge and greeted her.

It was monday morning, after i had played in Ashes of Discovery at 1am and my Wrickreeshee Technomancer fell down a crevasse and John Compton wandered by in his jammies, surprised to see someone playing his alien race.

I had gotten at most 6 hours sleep during the convention, due to running two 1AM slots and playing a 1AM slot... w00t to bed at 5am and awake at 7am... coffee

One, it'll Midsummer holiday this weekend, so me and the missus can have a night out this Thursday. Rare to the extreme.

Two, XCOM 2 is freaking amazing. So glad I bought a gaming platform after so many years.

Three(this will be RPG-related, promise), I finally got to run some SFS too. I don't think I'll be going for too many novas, since I dislike the system somewhat, but darn is it simpler to run. And Vossi was a real keeper.

And on a completely unrelated note, someone just asked me permission so that he could use my Strawberry Machine Cake lyrics in his running of Commencement for his home game. I asked how he found them, and he said they were a top hit for Strawberry Machine Cake on google.

My spoonful of sugar, is finally after about 40 years I have a dedicated and decorated gaming room in my house! The first game was with three of my sons, my oldest sons' fiancé, my Wife and her brother! The brother and fiancé were first time PFS players and they had a blast! We played Silent Tide, as the first game of course, and it was fun to run it for them since none of them had played it before.

My Wife said she "won Pathfinder again" as she got in the final blow to end the game and save the day! LOL She also got the killing blow on the BBEG in the first game she played so apparently thinks this is now a thing! LOL

At GENCON I will be running 5 slots, both PFS specials, the SFS special, a PFS2 scenario and a as of now unnamed SFS game. Hope to see many of you at the CON and at one of my tables! I am again apprehensive but incredibly stoked to GM and Play in what I call the "Super Bowl of Gaming!"

The board seems a little negative today - a bit of a downer to tell the truth...
So I figured I'd push this thread back to the top - it often brings a smile to hear a good story or two.
.
Story is a bit old, but still funny...

My heavy armor cleric can't hit the broad side of a barn. It's the -2 from the tower shield and the fact that his strength is 10... anyway, I usually don't even try.

During character introductions, I explain that he has the Love domain, and profession matchmaker, so as he introduces himself to each PC he says in a faux French accent, "so, are you currently involved in a long term relationship?"... this often leaves players speechless (esp. female players- maybe thinking I'm hitting on them, you know "Ol Creepy Guy"...), but moving on, he forges ahead with the introduction.

"I am a Matchmaker by profession, it is my 'day job' (finger quotes), perhaps we might discuss some of my other clients?" At this point I switch to my OOC voice and say ... "Role Play often suffers due to time constraints, and we only have a limited time for this tonight so..." switching back to In Character voice "Sigh... It appears that we have got to save the world again now, perhaps after that we'll find your one true love, yes?"

Now flash forward to the middle of the dungeon crawl and the PCs are searching a room. My cleric is against one wall in the center of the room, when a LARGE secret door opens to reveal a LARGE demon right next to my cleric - 5 feet away. The judge after putting out the demon figure on the table (did I mention it was right beside my figure?) turns to me and says - "what do you do?" and with out missing a beat I reply "I look up at the Demon and say 'so, are you currently involved in a long term relationship?'"

actually, some weeks later, in prepping to run that same scenario I discovered that the Demon actually WAS "currently involved in a long term relationship" ... with another demon that we had defeated earlier in the scenario. Which may explain why it seemed to be so upset with me about the question...

One of the GMs around here likes to do 'knowledge: Local" by some NPCs to see if they recognize players..

Many of my PCs tend towards 'infamous'.

'Boomstick' McCracken.. boozehound of Cayden (inquistor actually)
Glytha "Nanny" Ogg.. sweet old lady who knows EVERYONE. (Knowledge local/history/nobility focused witch with her evil cat Greebo)

It's always fun to find small ways to ham things up without derailing play..

Like tanglefoot shotting a Roc and as it crashes look to the next player in line and go "'Ware falling rocs'

Or .. in a chase scene say 'I'm an old lady sonny.. but I know a secret.." Apsis Agent "What". "I running faster than you now" Hits him with a tanglefoot bag.

The big spoonful for us is that we got a new store (Java Game Haus) running things for these last few months and an old Con that shut down is starting back up (Odds are we won't get onboard THIS year but next year is looking good,

We are entering our 6th year and doing our 5th Cayden's Crawl even this fall ("Never could resist a Fifth..." )

"Hi! Call me Auntie! Some of you may have visited my old establishment?

SO... I joined up. Best thing I've done sense taking in orphans, and a lot less work I tell you!

(glances around at the other people in the room)

"anyone here have a bottle opener, like for a bottle of beer?
(receiving a nod, excepting bottle opener)
"anyone have a glass or something to drink a beer from?
(a glass is produced)
"now, anyone have a bottle of beer?"

I've been thinking about collective nouns for animals, some of which were very poetic:
  • murder of ravens
  • sounder of boars
  • exaltation of larks
  • pandemonium of parrots
  • parliament of owls
So... What do we do with leshies? Bushel and crop are fun, but they both have far too domesticated a feel for my tastes. And salad... Well, hrmph.

I'd like to suggest a 'bloom' of Leshies.

My last SFS game as a GM allowed me to be pretty creative with my aliens, so they all were somewhat bouncy balloon animals that spoke in squeaky helium voices. My party had fun bouncing around with them, and were disappointed that there was no racial boon to play them on the chronicle sheet!

It was a tight little group of four players. One Dreamers veteran (Dracomicron), one of my play-by-post buddies (Mjolbeard) who had just moved to MN and wondered if there was any in-person PFS, and two brand new people who wanted to try SFS and organized play out for the first time. We had an awesome fast and scary ship combat that they triumphed in, and tons of great roleplay.

It was a wonderful time from beginning to end, with squeaky balloon animal aliens. Awesome.

I'm putting this story in spoilers, because it does tell you vaguely about one enemy in combat, but not where it is or exactly what it contains or anything.
At Origins, my children and I played Rose Street Revenge, run by Mark Seifter. It was a great game in general, but I in particular wanted to mention

cute kid story, minor spoiler for Rose Street Revenge:

One of the enemies was a swarm of very small animals. My small daughter (mid elementary school) was playing Kyra, who was trained in nature. She wanted to use it to calm and communicate with the swarm of animals, and rolled a 20. The GM described the result as a 'Snow White moment' as several of the small animals landed on her, being friendly. She also put one of them on the head of her brother's character. In a later fight, she asked if any of the tiny creatures were still with her. She then used nature to have the cute little animal who was curled up in her bag attack, doing minimal damage. So not only did we get a preview of how Handle Animal works in second edition, Mark also made my two animal-loving small children smile a lot.

Boy 2: “Dude, that’s not spoilers. That’s GENRE KNOWLEDGE. You go into a dark cave, then the monsters eat you. That’s the plot of every science fiction movie EVER.”

Yesterday I got to play with my local in-person lodge for the first time in months (*shakes fist at work schedule*) - not only did we play at a different, new location, but we even had a new person join us to try it out. He seemed to enjoy himself and so we gave him a bunch of information and a bunch of links and now he's been chatting with us in the lodge FB chat. Here's hoping we don't scare him away :)

My Down the Verdant Path group are largely PbP newbies so it's been a little slower going than usual trying to show them the ropes and answer their questions but so far, so good, I think. I even had a player very sternly scold a hat and tell it that he was on to its schemes and trickery.

My lowbie long-term PbP group is currently running through Confirmation. We're up to 4 pages on the campaign and the party's only just getting into exploring the place they've been sent to explore. Thus far they've enjoyed a nice evening roasting marshmallows and telling stories with Janira, discussed farm animals and philosophy, and one just did a bit of impromptu skinny-dipping.

My higher-level long-term PbP group is almost done with the second scenario in the Faithless & Forgotten trilogy and everyone seems to be looking forward to continuing onward with other scenarios once we finish the third scenario. But now that I'm starting to look ahead to planning future scenarios I see what others mean when they reference geek sudoku!

Oh! And when I got home from work tonight there was a piece of mail waiting for me that contained one of the boons from my wishlist - gifted to me by a very generous person and the note written on it absolutely made my day <3
