Starfinder's Holidays

General Discussion

The Starfinder wiki is unhelpful. Then again, the game is still young.

Reading all of the content would be a "fun" little project, hunting through for mentions of specific dates. Is there a unified place for it? Or what holidays are you aware of? I recall Iomedae's faith had a handful in Pathfinder but I don't recall if they were carried over to Starfinder, or if any of them are even still relevant.

All I know is if the Skittermanders did NOT get a official hugging holiday then this is not the game I thought it was...

This is all I got from CRB and PW.

River of Returning Joys
Part of every nation and yet belonging
to none, the River of Returning Joys is
actually a massive caravan, a rolling
festival that has circled the Ring of
Nations since time immemorial. While
its traditional role in the facilitation
of communication, trade, and
understanding between far-flung nations
has long since been rendered obsolete, the
River is still a vital cultural touchstone, and
the arrival of its snaking train of groundcars
and antique carbosa-drawn wagons is one
of the few recognized holidays in a world
without seasons...

That sucks a bit. I decided to keep a captain's log of my envoy's adventures (previously her diary before she met her teammates). It would have boon nice fluff to be able to share festive holidays with the crew since I've been keeping track of the date.

I'd think at least some of the various Deities would have sent some form of instructions as for as days to count as sacred and thus as holidays. I don't see why you couldn't have those in Starfinder. Also I think the Pact Worlds would commemorate the signing of the Absalom Pact, and the end of the Swarm Invasion as those two events in particular were vital to the shaping of the Pact Worlds. Many planets would hold their own cultural traditions, and it is known that on the Idari there are certain days during the standard year dedicated to feasting alongside celebrating a Kasatha returning home form the Tempering.

Certainly the Burning Archipelago would celebrate the founding, or rather the re discovering of the bubble cities and hold Seranre's (Or however you spell that name) holy days as holidays.

Life day?

Since most of the Starfinder gods are Pathfinder gods, I'd assume some of them are the same as Golarion holidays.

Given the amount of holidays that we have that basically spring up from some guy declaring a day a holiday 60 years ago, I would bet there are some really weird ‘fake’ holidays all over the galaxy. All it would take is a few people talking about some forgotten pre-gap festival they found in an ancient and mysterious tome, and boom, you’ve got a new Valentine’s day.

You have to buy the shirt from us, though. What shirt, you might say? Oh, the shirt everyone has to wear on this holiday. And don’t forget to buy your mom a commemorative drinking horn, or a scale model of the original Festival Tree for the kids.

I must admit that Life Day is canon at my table.

Triune's Birthday! That should be a big one! All Hail The All-Code!

Based on this thread I added in a more lore appropriate festival, the Dawnflower celebration, that I presented to my player over the Infosphere (our gaming slack).

Absalom Station is a colorful festival with mostly Golarion races who have thrown colored electro-luminescent dust at each other. The parade through the streets has large groups glowing in mostly yellow, orange and white dust over their already brightly colored clothing. Everything is a bright celebration, with the hallways painted with colorful murals.

The Burning Archipelago has pictures of festival goers wearing heat-resistant hazard suits, that were then modified and colored to be works of art. They march in parades with giant puppets made out of the same materials throughout the streets of the enclosed habitat that exists within the star. The shielding that protects them all is reduced slightly so there is a spotlight effect that follows them. Festival participants run out of the burning spotlight and parade watchers attach very thin colorful paper which ignites as they step back into the intense sun.

On Castrovel it's a much different tone for the festival. Still held during the day, the lashunta participants paint their faces like skulls or other spooky figures using reflective paint, or walk around on stilts wrapped in green and brown vines. Fire plays a big part in this festival as well, for at the end of it, a giant straw effigy is burned during an all-day party. This version of the celebration has become the most famous one due to the amount of nudity and intoxicants involved.

UNIFICATION DAY: Dedicated to the birth of Triune, a celebration of drift and technology, and of bringing different species together. Some telepaths use this day as an excuse to form a massive collective mental connection, though more and more shirren are shying away from this as it feels too swarm like.

REMEMBERANCE DAY: Originally made to remember the lost world of Golarion, it now is just as much about remembering those who were lost in general. It is an odd mix of Golarion Races celebrating and sharing their heritage in wild classical costume and exotic food, and solemn graveyard vigils to honor those who passed away. Some on Eox use this day to honor those who have risen from the dead and to spread hope that friends and loved ones who have passed may yet join them in undeath.

Exo-Guardians

Victory Day: A day to mark the successful repulsion of the Swarm from both Vesk and Pact World space. On this day military personnel often pay tribute to their fallen brothers and the victory their sacrifice secured. Vesk in particular honor their most heroic warriors who were lost in the Swarm Conflict.

There is a paragraph in the Castrovel section of Pact Worlds which discusses an Elven holiday in the port city of Cordona:

"So great is the appeal that many elves actually vacation in the city, especially for Revelnight, the citywide masquerade lit by charming, colorful lanterns, whose ask-no-questions frivolity greatly bolsters the population of half-elves."

I hope it goes better than Hug a Vesk day did.

Yeah, the Vesk were quite perturbed to discover that, if a skittermander hugged them, there was nothing they could actually do about it. ;)
