Sitting at the Trivia Contest, trying to embrace rather than lose myself in the chaos. I’m sitting at the table with Thursty & Liz L from Paizo (who is scoring the contest).
I love this event as it just captures my immature sense of humor...in fact, it’s lower than my sense of humor, so I end up feeling pretty highminded about it all.
Team Names:
Decanter of Endless Whiskey
Kuthid Kingsquad (Kingsquid)
Tonya’s Tot
Goblin Brain Swarm
Toes of the Ten (Squids of the Ten?)
Difficult Terrain
Uh, at the end of Round 3, I’m pretty sure that Diego just ate someone’s scoresheet. Not sure...uh...wow...that happened.

Ah, that was quick and good, next up is the Trivia Contest.
Wow, in Cascade 13 is a new event: Inspire Courage and Open Bardic Tournament. That may be neat.
I was at Inspire Courage, and boy was it fun!
I imbibed enough liquid courage to actually sing in public.
I performed "Hail Ye Chelish Lords," a filk song I wrote a few years ago for "Hell's Rebels."

Anyone got links to pictures of the banquet presentation or at least a description of how Lini now looks?
I haven't looked through all of the photos yet, myself, but Steven Coling (VC Canberra) has reported that updates and photos will be posted to the PFS Australia Facebook Page.
Hope that helps!

This is the coolest post/thing I’ve seen/listened to all weekend, and I’ve seen Diego eat an answer sheet and Thursty sober, but damn...people should check out that post, the music, and the Hell’s Rebel translation. +1
Haladir, if I find you this con, I may ask you to perform that again. I’m sorry to have missed it.

Inspire Courage was fun! Joie the Organizer had brought a bunch of musical instruments, and encouraged people to share their stories and songs. Ben of Syrinscape was there with an excellent and silly song about a TPK in one of his gaming groups. Haladir’s Chelish song was amazing as was Joie’s tribute to Strawberry Machine Cake. Speaking of Strawberry Machine Cake, I definitely shared some of the filk that I have ghostwritten for that band — and the audience was very kind about the fact that my lyrics are superior to my singing voice.
A highlight for me was performing some of my Strawberry Machine Cake filk for Eleanor Ferron — the creator of that glorious fictional band — who clapped and looked a little dazzled by all the fun the fans were having with SMC music. There was also a wild Cosmo sighting and an amazing performance of an original song by a very young fan named Marty who composed and danced her own number.

Yesterday was awesome! I started off with GMing the Starfinder Quests in the Grand Ballroom for what I think was the 15th time. But this time, I got to run for Tim Nightengale and his family! I hope everyone had fun.
I then hit up the play-by-post lunch for a bit before ducking out to get a table started for the Legendary Games special, Hope and Salvation, while Alex Riggs was on a panel. I had the pleasure of both Jacob Michaels and Jeremy Corff at my table! Alex got there and I tagged out to go sit on the play-by-post panel with Hmm, Linda Zayas-Palmer, GM Lorenzo, and Gary Pepper (who is recently a VL! Congrats!) Seriously, if you have not given play-by-post a shot yet, try it out!
I then ran downstairs for my next panel, Freelance Forge presents Freelancing 101, with Andrew Mullen, David N. Ross, Joe Kondrak, Crystal Malarsky, and Mike Kimmel as moderator. We had a pretty good turnout and talked about how we got started and how to break in to RPG freelancing. If you are looking to start writing game content, please check out our group!
I had a few hours of unscheduled time, followed by the banquet. I sat at Rob McCreary’s table, right next to Larry Wilhelm and Andrew Mullen. Lots of cool announcements that Painlord already posted about.

I believe the name of the AP is The Tyrant’s Grasp. Hope to get more details at the AP panel in a few hours.
And, yes, killing a purple worm by throwing space nazis at it was very fun!
Also fun: surviving a stargazer delve and staying on my feet after being hit with a d810 rifle! Joe Pasini ran a great session!

I have all the questions and answers from the extremely fun Trivia Contest and will be sharing them as I find time. This morning, I’ve played a LOT of the Faction’s Favor ACG, Society stuff. It’s been fun and enjoy being able to walk into PaizoCon and have an easy entry to play the ACG.
I also played in Round 2 of the ACG Open Tourney. My team and I played well, but I don’t think it will be good enough to win it.
Now playing more ACG. Sorry for the sparse post, but sometimes gaming is gaming.

Notes from the PFS Q&A panel:
Three or four Seeker scenarios in season 10. (One as a two parter.)
Final 1E interactive is pulling inspiration from the Scoured Stars incident as a “interactive scenario that failed”.
Tier 5-15 multitable special.
Working title: The Grinder
Possibly explaining why there are only low level characters in 2E.
TriOmegaZero |
Dark Archive and other faction have adventures planned in season 10 to help determine the direction the faction takes in 2E. Reporting data will be evaluated to determine who sticks around and in what form (or lead by).
Starfinder faction setup is also available for inspiration, including the new minor faction component. (Like maybe a Blakros minor faction.)

Reading all of this makes me looking forward to the release of 2E (and possibly the last AP). Overall for me, ever since I stepped into Society I feel I barely been able to play at times due to my work schedule (something that is changing in less then a week!) so 2E will offer me a new change to step in and enjoy the games.
Something I am enjoying with SFS atm due to be able to play from the start.
Thanks to everyone for posting the updates and taking your time for doing so!

Starfinder Delve: I was playing the vesk soldier. We killed a bad guy by me throwing him under a broken giant battle robot that was suspended from the ceiling with chains, as a reprogrammed maintenance bot and the mechanic's drone cut the cables.
Squish.
Then the mechanic had the bot disassemble the heavy weapon infero cannon from the battle bot, and hand it to me. I blasted the remaining bad guys for 10d6 damage.
We won!
The GM was Owen.
The player of the mechanic was about 7 years old.
Good times.

Final 1E interactive is pulling inspiration from the Scoured Stars incident as a “interactive scenario that failed”.
Tier 5-15 multitable special.
Working title: The Grinder
Possibly explaining why there are only low level characters in 2E.
Honestly that sounds like a bad idea. The final thing in PFS 1 should be a moment of triumph and not some "we kill all your chars because we want a clean slate for the new version".

Yeah, very much this.
The Scoured Stars incident kind of works because it's off-screen and doesn't have a negative impact on PCs.Now, Bonekeep was billed as "extremely difficult and very likely to kill you if you don't bring your A game", but that's a very different (and positively challenging) thing to "This is set up for you to fail"

John’s narrative-based explanation was to be able to have NPCs in 2E saying “did you hear what the Pathfinder Society did? Do you know how much they sacrificed to save X?”
It is expected to be a challenge and not an instant kill, so that people who survive have something to be proud of on their 1E characters as a capstone.

Bonekeep is exactly what this special is intended to evoke.

And that's a much more positive description than we got in this thread originally. Just goes to show that how these things are described is extremely important :)

That is what i am worrying about, bonekeep was a product for a small subset of the community while most players i know are not interested in stuff like this.

I believe that the team would say they have to release a variety of scenarios that suit many styles of play. I can vouch for In The Grandmaster's Name as a less challenging option, considering my team got through it without a single combat. It was also mentioned that when the Scoured Stars was described as "an interactive that failed", they heard responses to the effect of "I'd play that".

Bonekeep is exactly what this special is intended to evoke.
How? Bonekeep only works because the player character power level is kept in check where as now you can start running into the issue that you can cast every single spell in game. Also it is worth mentioning that Bonekeep got toned down too making it really hard to tell what power range we are talking about. Three is hard but there are a half a dozen or so scenarios that are worst.
TriOmegaZero |
How?
I doubt John will be able to answer that with any timeliness, but I will mention it to him.
I encourage everyone to mention your misgivings, as they will be paying attention to the threads. (Maybe not this one specifically, but we can hope.)

Venture Captain Louis Manko Levite of Seattle, Washington for all of his efforts and volunteering to make PaizoCon happen, year after year. I can attest that Louis never stops moving at PaizoCon and he checks in with everyone. What a wonderful guy. Venture Captains Keith Apperson & Jack Brown of Minnesota for their leadership in raising money for charity and other initiatives to help out others. Tonya specifically mentioned them organizing the unofficial Friday Afternoon slot of PaizoCon (brought to you by 10,000 Lakes gaming!) ^ Of course, I’m biased (Jack & Keith are my in-person VCs) but I was so stoked when this was announced!
You’re not biased, you are right to be proud of them. Both Jack & Keith (or as we call him around here, Matt) are amazing and infinitely deserving of all the praise they’ve earned.
Not only are they both just amazing Pathfinders and notorious teetotallers yahoos, they are just good people.
+1 to acknowledging the volunteers who make this community great.

I think I literally played the ACG for 16 hours yesterday. And now am taking my time, skipping my morning ACG slot, to sit in the buffet and just relax. 16 hours is a lot, but also it was fun and the time passed quickly.
There are good sides and down sides to playing one thing that you enjoy for 16 hours:
Upside: you are playing the thing you enjoy for 16 hours.
Downside: you are playing the thing you enjoy for 16 hours and missing out on others things that might be fun too.
Anyhoot, my team of ACGers played through the first 3 books of the Faction’s Favor ACG. That was 15 runs with my witch, Kasmir. Balodek had a version of the Hellknight. Ryan played an arcane caster of some sort, but I never asked for the details. Radillo? Which class is that?
It’s easy when you have a small group and you can quickly get set up and play cleanly. Some games can take over an hour, some less, but with set up and clean up times, we did a lot in a little time.
Also, we had pizza delivered to our game room, which was keen.
Back to go socialize and make up for lack of facetime yesterday.

Re: Scenario 10-99 (in-house name “The Grinder”)
I was at the panel. I’m paraphrasing but the explanation went something like this:
“We’ve talked for several years about having a special where the designed outcome wasn’t a heroic triumph, but rather a failure due to unexpected events. That would really allow us to tell a different kind of story for the season. Not necessarily an ‘everyone dies’ failure, just one that went wrong. However we understand that it could really split the player base. While some people would think that was awesome, others would be very upset that they failed. So we never did it.”
“When we decided that we would not be carrying characters over to 2E, we wanted to have an in-world explanation for why there were few or no high-level Pathfinders. We did that off-screen in Starfinder Society with the Scoured Stars. For PFS, we decided to make the experience playable. So while it may be possible to triumph in 10-99, it will be a bittersweet victory. Of course, we’re not saying exactly how yet.”
“We really wanted to give players the chance to say goodbye to their favorite 1E characters in an epic way. That’s why we are tentatively planning for 10-99 to be Tier 5-15 instead of 1-11 or something lower. It will be hard, they may die. But it is a truly epic way to end that character’s career forever.”
Note 1: The PFS Team was hesitant to say the name “Grinder” but did anyway. It is their in-house semi-joke name, not the official name. The name conjures connotations and they expected some blowback just from the name.
Note 2: Also said: “We are talking about a scenario a year away so nothing is set in stone.”
