What is "contra dancing"?
I'm really new at this...
Contra dance is a type of folk dancing that originated in the Northeastern US, Appalachia, and the Maritime Provinces. It is a direct descendant of 17th century English and Scottish country dancing, with some influence from 18th century French country dancing and 19th century American square dancing.
(I've heard contra called "New England square dancing", but that's a misnomer.)
Contra is primarily a line dance where partners pair off, perform a dance step together, then rejoin the line. There is usually a caller announcing which moves to do at a given time. (Similar to a square dance caller.)
Contra is almost always accompanied with live musicians who play a mix of English, Irish, French Canadian, Breton, and American instrumental folk music. The fiddle is usually the lead instrument, with bass, acoustic guitar, mandolin, accordion/concertina, and occasional wind instruments rounding it out.
It's a lot of fun, and a good work-out!

Last night's D&D game got canceled due to two players not being able to make it.
Tonight's Swords of the Serpentine game is a go!
On Saturday, my wife and I are going to the 2018 Seneca Lake Chocolate and Wine Tour. We are very much looking forward to this!
We won't be going to Friday's contra dance this week. My wife is flying home Friday night, and I need to drive to Syracuse to pick her up.

Heading to Zelda's tonight for some TV and alone time together. Alone once the teens settle down and leave us alone, at any rate.
Weekend...no idea. Not sure. Zelda is working on emptying out a storage unit and selling off a bunch of stuff to both raise extra cash and no longer have her monthly fee on the unit. Not sure if I'm going to be helping her with that or if Aiymi has something planned for me.

Working!
Maybe.
Husband has been sick for a week and I started feeling puny in the wee hours at work Wednesday night/Thursday morning so we went to the urgent care clinic after I got home. Husband got antibiotics for a sinus infection and I got antibiotics to deal with strep throat.
The doc/nurse practitioner guy said that in theory the antibiotics should do enough in the time I have off to render me non-contagious and able to work tomorrow night. And it's been almost 24 hours since I started my antibiotics and I *do* feel some better, so that's a good thing.
The fact that I actually don't feel like sleeping anymore and want to futz around on my laptop also points towards me being on the mend :P

So... how was everyone's weekdne?
Mine was a lot of fun... and we came home with a case-and-a-half of local wine!
As for gaming stuff...
I'm still working on my Dungeon World conversion of Pathfinder's Witch class. I finished a draft, but I'm not happy with it. This stuff is harder than it looks!
And I've been reading the core rulebook of the Atomic Robo RPG from Evil Hat Productions. It's a Fate Core setting that's a present-day timeline of their pulp adventure 1930s Spirit of the Century campaign world. It looks like a LOT of fun!
And... Evil Hat is running sale where you can get the print and the PDF combo for a whopping $10!

So... how was everyone's weekend?
It was meh. My game was completely off the cuff and from my point of view it was kind of lame though there were a couple of *GASP!* moments which were good. Beyond that, it just rained and rained and rained. And my left knee is driving me batty with pain. It wasn't a terrible weekend because we had fun on game night (the 12 year old daughter of one my players was absent so we could be vulgar and childish ourselves) but I wish I'd been more prepared for the game.

Meh, my daughter was ill the first part but we got an inch of snow Sunday so I got to work 8 hours.
Now I rest up, the Seattle blizzard should be hitting us tonight and tomorrow with a foot of snow possible.
Great for the pocketbook, not as much my tired muscles (we've gotten two and a half feet of snow the last three weeks).

Saturday was good, although the GM for the second game was not well rested and we got a more Cliffs Notes version of the scenario. Still had a good time. Stayed up way too late and was not up to running the AP yesterday, so we swapped to Ageless Ambitions, which went late but was a good time. Work today has been pretty easy, looking forward to head home and try to finish our Wardens of the Reborn Forge game.

My weekend largely sucked. I had what amounts to a depression episode for the entire weekend and couldn't be around people - could barely handle being out of the house.
Only played about 2 hours of RotRL on Saturday night. Aiymi said we'd pick it back up on Sunday but instead she played a game on her phone for 18 hours straight.
And we did laundry.
I think the highlight of my weekend was just throwing loads of clothes down the stairs.

So... What are everyone's plans fir the weekend?
My wife is flying home from San Diego at the moment, and I'm picking her up at the airport tonight. I have dinner reservations at one of our favorite restaurants.
As for the weekend... playing Papers and Paychecks. Specifically: we're probably going to start the prep for filing out 2018 income taxes. Yay us.

My GF is coming down tomorrow and we're going to see James Taylor in concert. She'll be here all weekend and Monday, as it's a bank holiday (she works at a bank...lol). Aside from Friday, there are no real plans as it's also our group's weekend "off" from the toils and travails of dice chunkin'.
Hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day and celebrate it in the manner you see fit!

We finally got to do Savage Tide again, though one player was missing and everyone was kinda rusty after a two-month-plus hiatus, so we didn't get very much done, just a bit of travel and two small combats. (Also, a party with an Invoker [PF-ized Warlock], a Kensai/Bladebound Magus, and a Soulknife|Aegis who can make his weapon change to Bludgeoning damage fears no Black Pudding.)
No game this weekend, half my players will be absent for one reason or another, but hopefully back to full the first weekend of March.

Here's hoping everything goes well!
I'm going to be 3 players short this weekend. One almost never makes it anymore because she's supporting her currently non-working husband and lives almost 3 hours away. I still count her among the faithful, though. I'll do that until she tells me that she simply won't be able to join us anymore.
The other two are a father and son team who drive 2.5 hours to get here from Memphis for our every other weekend games. His wife left him last summer and this Saturday is their anniversary so he's just not in a good place to make a long trip over. BUT my Skype player will be in town so she'll get to sit in with everyone.
Now, to come up with an adventure that isn't in bits and pieces like it currently is.

Over the past weekend, my wife was out of town on business, so I had the house to myself.
I had planned to do some game design work: I'm noodling over a hack of Dungeon World for science-fantasy play, so I could run "Powered by the Apocalypse" games using campaign and/or adventure ideas from sources like Starfinder or Aethera Campaign Setting or Legendary Planet.
I ended up wasting WAY too much time on Twitter and re-watching Marvel Cinematic Universe movies on Netflix.

Tonight...not sure...maybe RotRL with Aiymi.
Sat-Sun doing some car shopping with Zelda. Her poor old SUV is in danger of collapsing while driving down the road.
Good luck! I hate car shopping. It's been a very long time since I had to but my car died almost a year ago and soon I'll just have to bite the bullet and go.

This is our off weekend. No plans except lunch with a friend today and putting up with my son's roommate, who was told by my son he has until the end of May to find a new place to live. He's a very dramatic, emotionally stunted adult who actually got down and bowed to my son to let him stay. Really.

We're having the interior of our house painted, starting a week from today. Consequently, my wife and I spent much of the weekend boxing up nearly all of our books, artwork, knick-knacks, glassware, etc. We've packed 25 "Small" moving boxes with stuff... 19 of which were just books. We made a LOT of progress!
I snapped a photo of our bare living room. As a joke, I posted it on Facebook with the caption, "Nothing sparked joy."
We also went out for dinner at a local Cajun restaurant (they were running a Mardi Gras Week special), and went to see two one-act operas at a local theater: The Old Maid and the Thief, and The Medium, both mid-20th century works with English librettos by American composer Gian Carlo Menotti. While neither of us are big opera fans, we really enjoyed the performances!
On the gaming front: My Thursday night Swords of the Serpentine game was postponed and ran last night instead. We had a BLAST! I am really digging this game: I think this is my current favorite TTRPG!
