A friend's son is playing in the band for his high school's homecoming football game. We've been invited to come out for that, but Houston is so spread out, it feels like it's practically in another town. So, we're getting a hotel room (much to the kids' excitement) and then we'll hang out in that part of town (and maybe see some friends) tomorrow morning before driving back home.
Other than that, nothing much.

Insomniamaster Cal, strikes again!
Nothing big this weekend. We'll be having lunch with my mom and sister so that we can plan for our Christmas trip to NYC. And we're going camping next week, leaving on Thursday, so we need to start getting stuff gathered for that beforehand.
My ten year old daughter wants me to run a D&D adventure for the family. I bought the 5E Starter Set, and I've read through most of it. If there's time, we could start that adventure.

That'll be fun! My son sat in on his first game when he was seven. I made it a pretty simple game and the other two players (dudes my age) were glad to play along. UNTIL they came to a room where they discovered the floor was a black pudding and the macguffin (a jeweled dagger that was the symbol for a local noble's house) was on a pedestal in the middle of the chamber. The two adults were brainstorming about throwing a rope over a roof beam and then somehow using it to get above the pedestal and my son just says, "I cast mage hand and bring the dagger to myself." The two adults both face-palmed and insisted he get all of the XP for the game because he genuinely outsmarted them.

Oh, I’m up to a rough sketch of six encounters guaranteed to make for at least a 50% chance of a tpk each, and built with all low level enemies, so it’s the return of Tucker’s Kobolds. }:)
I’m excited to see how it comes out. Once they’ve played it, I’ll post here the full evil glory of Silnyseoyl and her minions. I can’t wait.

Going to be missing the final couple sessions of Dark Souls (D&D 5e) due to my annual hunting trip, but I have to say, the group has really gotten their s&$& together for this game.
When we were playing Pathfinder, most of my fellow players were playing their characters like knuckleheads, but with the increased difficulty and focus on combat, everyone's really starting to think strategically and work as a team. Last session was the first time since starting the module that no one died (note: dying is a game mechanic, so it's not quite as big a deal as it would be in PF), and we took out a tough mini-boss that was not pulling any punches.
Also, massive props to the guy running the sessions-- It's his first time as DM, and he's pretty new to RPGs in general, but he's taken to it really quickly. Granted, he's running a published module now, but he's gotten familiar enough with the rules that he's written up a homebrew that's all queued up for us at some point after this one is done.

I’m going to try GMing through StartPlaying again. They have an event coming up for the release of the 2024 dnd dmg. Who knows if I’ll actually get any players for it though. It’ll be my first foray into 5e since the first version of 5e was in playtest.
Tell us how it went!

It hasn’t gone yet. I’ve got like a week before start and it doesn’t end till partway through next month.
So right now is job interview.

That's brilliant.

Thinking more about this, it could really backfire. I mean, they might think you're a real go-getter and expect you to actually ACHIEVE that goal. And that's a LOT of work. First you gotta collect the bones... then you gotta take, like, 50 trips to Home Depot for materials and tools... exhausting.

More reading. Progressive Myths. The Complete Book Of Passed Hand Bidding. Harnmaster Kethira rules. Building an HMK character sheet for Oshynn of Llysgaled from the stories about her I've found around the net. Oshynn is a largely self-taught (though apprenticed for a while to an independent (i.e. not via a Chantry) Fyvrian Viran (Master)) Fyvrian Shek-Pvar (Wizard) who has a knack for solving crimes -- and a vision of her future as a Grey Shek-Pvar tied somehow to the Earthmaster site at Anisha. (Fyvria is the magic of Earth, one of the six elements on the Pvaric Wheel). Oh, and War of Immortals, too. :-)

Cal's question from last week that we all failed to answer carries over to this week! What's happening!
We had our third session of Delta Green last night. Whereas last session we spent way too much time researching the mysterious house we're investigating, this session was spent either inside the house lowering our Sanity scores, or running out of the house to preserve our Sanity scores. The GM says we may finish up the adventure next session, but definitely within the next two sessions. I'm looking forward to our PCs realizing that the tortured spirits inside the house we're investigating don't want our help; they only want our PCs to also become tortured spirits inside the house.
Other than that, we'll be straightening up the house for visiting family coming next week.

Thanks, Andostre! I've been really out of sorts since the election results and have sort of been isolating for the safety of myself and others lol. Thanks for picking up where I dropped off!
I went and watched my son's band last night here in town and have snoozed most of today. Our group is still scheduled to play on November 28th, so keeping those fingers crossed. I did have a little chat with the GM about the high numbers of random monster encounters we were having and how they slowed down the pace of the story line and he gave me free XP for bringing it up LOL. The Pathfinder combat sequences take far too long for those to be viable. He was just trying to inject an AD&D1e vibe into the game and I do applaud him for that.
