Our online-game server's host is going to be out of town this weekend - her husband is having surgery and they're both going thru COVID testing - so no Savage Tide this week.
Also no more Tuesday 5e game, my group went back to in-person games which means no more for me as I'm four states away now.
Have a NWN quest tonight, though. More Dwarfquest!

Definitely not going to the big family Father's Day gathering my family is planning.
"Social distancing as much as possible" the text said. That's what people say when they don't plan on social distancing.
Yeah, no, if it's one thing I've learned from reading the news is family gatherings is covid-19's favorite hunting grounds.

First game was a bit of a bust, hopefully tonights game with the same GM is better. It has a whole different cast at least. Second game last night was better, really helped my get a handle on how to run the adventure myself.
Got my start date for the new job yesterday, we're doing orientation on the 24th via remote meeting. I forget which service, but I don't think it was Zoom.

Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks, Orthos! I do, too. I wish I could have my pain med dosage increased but that's not going to happen. I was looking over some info from my different doctors about drug interactions the other day. I have taken both Norco (for pain) and Xanax (for anxiety attacks) together for years. At least 7 years or so. I didn't find out until this past January that I was never supposed to take both at bedtime!!! The nurse was actually surprised I hadn't died in my sleep! So I guess I'll just keep muddlin' on!

One of the most undervalued professionals that everyone has access to is the licensed Pharmacist who oversees the pharmacy you get your prescriptions from. Pharmacists are required to have a doctoral degree and pass multiple exams before becoming licensed.
In addition to supervising the pharmacy techs who fill your prescriptions, they are available for free consultations to talk to you about all aspects of taking your pills, possible adverse reactions, and how the various drugs you're taking interact both with other drugs and with the conditions you're dealing with.
And they are a fount of information about what over-the-counter remedies are available that you might want to try before you trudge off to the doctor.
Amazing people, pharmacists.

Amazing people, pharmacists.
Only it wasn't a pharmacist who told me this. It wasn't my pain doctor, my general practitioner, or any of my different psychiatric counselors over the years. It was the APRN of my newest counselor. No one else had ever mentioned this to me before. I was a little surprised...lol

In the Rules Menagerie, which I'm not playing in but am still keeping tabs on, the DM had everyone meet Elminster. Because of course he did. And random books were given out. Everyone gained a bunch of levels instantly.
A lot of the people in that group have never played before, so it's a fantastic idea to just hand them an additional 7 levels... jumping from 8 to 15...
Helped one of the kids level up this week because she has a tenuous grasp on the process from just one level to the next.
My Tyrant's Grasp group should be playing tomorrow night.

I started a new series for my Monster of the Week campaign, and it's kind of experimental. I'm running them through the procedurally-generated OSR module The Stygian Library by Emmy Allen. I'm having a lot of fun mashing up a story-game with OSR sensibilities.
Unfortunately, that was the only game I was in last week. The GM of the PF2e "Age of Ashes" game couldn't make it this week. And I had been super-excited to play in an online Star Trek Adventures campaign: I was in a single session that was pretty much all character generation and setting the scene for the next episode. Unfortunately, the GM of that game had to pull the plug of the whole series due to family commitments.
Right now, I am gearing up to run a two or three games for the upcoming online mini-convention, Gauntlet Committee Open Gaming. I've submitted a few options, and I'm waiting to hear back what will be on the calendar.
If any of you are interested in trying out a different RPG, I really would encourage you to check out GCOG!
And I'm still plugging away at two other game design projects. First, I'm teaching myself Affinity Publisher so that I can self-publish "Ritual of Water and Blood," an incursion I wrote for the game Trophy Dark. And I'm also working on version 2 of Ultraviolet World, my "Powered by the Apocalypse" hack for the OSR weird science-fantasy setting The Ultraviolet Grasslands.

Our weekend plans are pretty much the same as every other weekend post-COVID: Not much. The sum total of our Independence Day celebration plans are that I'm planning to light the charcoal grill tonight and grill up some hamburgers for dinner.
I have a couple of household projects I'm planning to do (and am procrastinating on by reading/posting in the Paizo, Magpie Games, and Gauntlet Community forums).
I have some game design work I want to do: I want to self-publish two Trophy incursions I've written, and I'm teaching myself Affinity Publisher to do so. I think the text for both is where it needs to be, so now it's design and layout. The two incursions are "Ritual of Water and Blood" for Trophy Dark and "Harpy's Maw" for Trophy Gold.
I submitted the latter for a game design contest, and it got some very positive initial feedback from the judges. I'm hoping that I'm in the running! Thankfully, the contest submission guidelines specifically said that the authors retain all rights to the work, so I will be free to self-publish and put a price tag on them.
Another project I'm working on is v.2 of my "Powered by the Apocalypse" hack for The Ultraviolet Grasslands setting. I think the basic rules are where they need to be, but I need to completely re-write the playbooks (i.e. character classes). The versions in v1 still cling too closely to their generic-fantasy Dungeon World origins and don't embrace the weird psychedelic heavy-metal science-fantasy setting nearly enough.
Once those are done, I'm thinking of taking a look at an older adventure of mine, "The Toadstool Goblins." I wrote that one back in 2012 as a side-quest for my "Rise of the Runelords" campaign. I self-published that one via Paizo's Community Use Policy, meaning that I was able to use Paizo intellectual property in it, but am only allowed to give it away for free. I think I'd like to up the rules for PF2, include better maps, and also file off the Paizo IP serial numbers... but leave just enough there to make it obvious, in the way that Legendary Games publishes its "Adventure Path Plug-Ins" line of products.

The trip out was surprisingly clear, though that's likely because of how early it was. On the way back the traffic was nuttier.
We're home now though and - hopefully - all's well. There were more people wearing masks there than we expected (though many were quite vocally decrying them and saying things like "we're immune to this s*$+" and "survival of the fittest, baby" and I have no idea how much was kidding around and how much was serious) but a few of them weren't wearing them correctly, usually leaving the nose exposed. Which kinda defeats the point.

Well, at least the defeat was tilted in your favor. Them breathing in virus through their nose is much better than them coughing and talking and singing it out through their mouths in your direction.

I am so sick of people bragging about "not being sheeple" or other crap. Wear the damned mask.

Howdy, everyone. What does everyone have going on this weekend? My GF is coming down tomorrow night and staying until Sunday, so none here. My group and I are looking at the 18th for a next possible game, but we don't know yet if it will be in person or online. COVID numbers here in Arkansas have been breaking the previous day's record all week long, so who knows?
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Roll20 game of Fall of Plaguestone this Sunday. I suspect I will be sleeping in on Saturday with nothing much to do. Just gotta get through tomorrow at work. The 40 minute commute is alright at the moment, but I shudder to think of what it would be without everyone working from home.

I'm prepping for the four games I'll be running for Gauntlet Community Open Gaming next weekend.
The games I'll be running are:
Trophy Dark: The Flocculent Cathedral
System: Trophy RPG
Time: Thu 7/16 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM EDT
Coiled in the moss-shrouded marshlands and cypress trees of The Mire lay the ruins of a lost temple to a forgotten saint. What riches can you find there... and what will you be willing to do to claim them? Or will the forest claim you? Trophy Dark is a collaborative dark fantasy/horror RPG of desperate treasure-hunters seeking fortune in an enchanted forest that does not want them there. The game has very simple rules that will be taught at the table.
Trophy Dark is by Jesse Ross, published by The Gauntlet. "The Flocculent Cathedral" is by Jim Crocker

Escape From Dino Island
System: Powered by the Apocalypse
Time Sat 7/18 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM EDT
Somewhere in the world is an unknown island where dinosaurs walk the Earth. Have they been there all along? Did they pass through a time vortex? Are they the result of a mad science experiment? That remains to be discovered... as are the origins of the mysterious high-tech installations that also dot the island. You're there too, and just in time to see everything go wrong in a very bad way. Can you escape from Dino Island?
Escape From Dino Island is by Sam Tung and Sam Roberts
SEATS AVAILABLE
Swords of the Serpentine: Corpse Astray
System: GUMSHOE
Time Sat 7/18 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Someone is stealing corpses, which wouldn't much of a problem if they weren't manufacturing them in the process. Come uncover tragic vengeance, unexpected betrayal, and—if you do it right—prevent the hideous death of thousands. Welcome to Eversink.
Swords of the Serpentine is by Kevin Kulp and Emily Dresner, soon to be published by Pelgrane Press. "Corpse Astray" is by Kevin Kulp, and will be included in the rulebook.
FULL: WAITLIST AVAILABLE
Trophy Gold: Harpy's Maw
System: Trophy RPG
Time: Sun 7/19 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM EDT
"Pirates on the seas? Aye, me boy, I've seen 'em...but even worse are the ones on land! D'ya never hear of the Wreckers of Harpy's Maw? They built a false lighthouse atop a rocky shoal, they did. Lit 'er up to call ships to her like the harpies of legend. And when the ship ran aground on the rocks, they rowed out in small boats to strip 'er of her goods and then sent the crew to the bottom of the sea! Aye, but the merchants down in Ambaret got sick of losin' their precious cargo, so they hired a mercenary fleet to take care of 'em once and fer all. But they say the privateers never found much of the wreckers' treasure. Who knows what's left to be found there? What's that? Where is Harpy's Maw? Funny you should ask—For another ale, I'll tell ya..."
Trophy Gold is by Jesse Ross, and is published by The Gauntlet. "Harpy's Maw" is by Mike Ferdinando

A NWN adaptation of the first part of the second-edition module Temple, Tower, and Tomb tomorrow night. Our PnP game is on hold until my new computer comes in sometime next week; it's gotten to the point where attempting to use voice chat is impossible and degrades into static or robot noises in a few moments, and that makes DMing impossible.

What's everyone else doing this weekend? A friend of mine has had a really tough week of it and asked if she could come over and watch "Hamilton" Saturday. I gritted my teeth and smiled and told her "Yes". That's me, taking bullets for my friends!
I freaking LOVE "Hamilton!"
I saw it on Broadway, two years after the original cast had moved on, but it was still amazing!
The Disney production is fantastic.

I'm not a fan of rap or hip hop or whatever its nom du jour is. Back in the early 80s I kind of liked some of the pioneering artists in the genre and much of the rap in the 1990s was actually geared to be fun. When gangsta rap became the only thing record companies wanted I quickly lost interest.
Brooklyn is where the hip hop is from.
