Temple location and Status questions

War for the Crown

My group is about to start doing War for the Crown. I am curious if anyone knows the location of the Temple of the upheld and Golden Rose (Shelyn) in Oppara. I am also curious what status members of the clergy of Shelyn would have in Taldan society.

I can't speak to the Temple of the Upheld and Golden Rose, given that I've never heard those names (or that name; I can't entirely tell if those are two different ones or if the "and" is part of one single longer name) despite going through all my collected reference material on Oppara (though I may well be missing something). There is the Porthmos Club which is a former temple of Shelyn and still has a lot of Shelynite iconography and materials. Inner Sea Taverns is worth looking into for that, since it does at least get a passing mention in the AP and makes for a great little bit of supplemental content.

As for how the clergy of Shelyn is perceived, I haven't spotted any canonical assertions, but I can certainly say that based on the information mentioned in the Foreword of Book 2 (Songbird, Scion, Saboteur), Taldans have a fairly significant reverence for Shelyn (who apparently began as a Taldan god). The arts are considered an important element of Taldan society and directly play into their sense of cultural superiority, so Shelynites would naturally flourish. Oppara also has two notable Bardic colleges (Kitharodian Academy and Rhapsodic College) and many other sites located to artistic endeavours, so I imagine Shelynites are quite prevalent as a general rule among performers and their patrons alike. All that to say, I wouldn't be surprised if Shelyn held a similar level of clout in the city as Abadar might, with the clergy having close financial ties to the nobility and all the benefits that entails.

Thank you for the the information. The section on Shelyn in the Inner Sea Gods guide, mentions the Temple of the Upheld and Golden Rose, as being the oldest known temple of Shelyn.

Ah, so it is. I hadn't thought to check Inner Sea Gods. Strange that I can't seem to find any mention of it anywhere else given how prominent sounding it is. Perhaps someone else on these forums will have better luck.

Based on the description though, I'd likely place it somewhere in the Aroden's View district, as that one houses some of Oppara's oldest buildings, has religious affiliations, and is very scenic. If you want the Shelynites to play a slightly less elite and more grounded role in your game however, then a good alternative would be to put it near the Cathedral of Coins in Canal Row, which is closer to the Kitarodian Academy and the general populace. Either way, the party isn't going to be wandering around Oppara all that much for the duration of the AP (as far as I know so far), so you can probably afford to fudge things to your needs.
