Fun fact to trot out every time someone talks about the superiority of katanas... the folding metal technique was, in part, developed because Japanese iron ore was very low quality, and all that extra work needs to be done to make something on par with a European blade.

Also it was like a million layers, not folded a million times
And there was a limit how often you could fold the steel to make it better (which was partially depending on the iron I guess) but from a certain point it only made the blade weaker (i think around a thousand times folded was the absolute maximum - which wasnt neccessarily better then katanas not foldes as many times)Darigaaz the Igniter |

2 limits. One the carbon gets worked out of the metal the more it gets folded. Two, after a certain number of folds the layers break up because there's so many of them they'd each be less than an atom thick.
I think the "over 1000" folds thing is a mistranslation. After 10 folds there's 1024 layers.

Since we're just talking theory, I'd love to see the Summoner in core. To me it is THE draw of the system now - no other game has such an interesting, fun, and versatile class for my tastes. I know there are some ways to game it so it becomes broken as all heck, but that's not the reason I love it (or anything I would ever do). I love having the option of a good background character who isn't averse to hiding behind her BIG FRIEND, for instance, or any of the other nice combinations you can build. And if you play gestalts, rogue and summoner are fun fun fun.
Besides, if you can't see the appeal of Mr. Giggles the Hydralisk, I don't know what to tell ya!

I had a kender gunslinger (fighter/thief) back in my 2nd Ed Spelljammer days.

I was planning to be a gnome, but you are right. A goblin is much better option.
Goblin paladin of Sarenrae with 2 revolvers, here I come.
