How Loud are the Various Rooms?

PaizoCon General Discussion

I noticed in the Event Schedule that all the events are in one of four locations:

Cascade
Evergreen
Grand Ballroom
Olympic

A gamer friend of mine is hard-of-hearing and finds it especially difficult to play in crowded locations with a lot of ambient noise.

Could someone who's attended PaizoCon in the past let me know if any of the locations are quieter than the others?

Any suggestions most welcome!
Thanks

Even the Grand Ballroom is actually pretty good in comparison to a lot of other large conventions. I think a large part of that is that almost every player there has been to other conventions and knows how important it is to be considerate.

Evergreen and Cascade are subdivided into many rooms for PaizoCon. Mostly small rooms with one or occasionally two games going on. The few medium rooms are usually pretty good as well unless you happen to be next to a "random, hilarious, mayhem" game where the players are laughing and cheering/jeering constantly. (There's a reason they put Cosmo in his own room.)

Olympic rooms have been set up for panel usage in the past (presenters on a stage with 50-100 seats for the audience). The nature of a panel format means there isn't much ambient noise.

No experience with the Grand Ballroom.

For panels in Olympic rooms, try to arrive early so you can sit close to the front. I have sometimes had difficulty catching everything if I'm sitting right at the back.

Cascade rooms can vary. The ones with lower numerals (Cascade 1, Cascade 3, etc) are smaller rooms with typically a single game. The higher numerals like Cascade 11 (not sure exactly which ones though) may have 3 to 5 games in them so ambient noise can be more of a trouble. The tables are each relatively small and spaced apart from each other, so physically you will be MUCH closer to the players in your game than you will be to the players in any other game.

Very much this, the single-game rooms are gloriously quiet compared to other places.

the 3-5game rooms are incredibly loud as tables start getting in a volume war with each other and someone eventually yells at everyone to quiet down and then it slowly repeats the cycle.

Grand Ballroom is ... a TON of ambient noise, but it's not exactly loud like the 3-5game rooms, just.... a lot of white noise happening.
