The Invulnerable Barbarian

Prerelease Discussion

The Invulnerable Barbarian was a strong option that some called OP...I'm not arguing if it was or wasn't.

However, the FLAVOR of this magical archetype was delicious and delightful and it fulfilled a specific playstyle that is dear to the hearts of so many: the smashy tank.

1. Describe your ideal barbarian playstyle. :D

2. How do you think they might accomplish a tanky or "invulnerable barbarian," based on what we've learned so far?

This will be my last new thread for a while. There are certain great topics though, that I'd just wanted to bring up. And fwiw, I love the barbarian, too! They deserve a spotlight!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

DR can still be a thing. If AC goes up by level as some think, then a barb archetype could surely scale some DR.

And my ideal barbarian playstyle is honestly 2wf. fury warrior from wow/frenzy barb from diablo style.

I have to respect that. I've got a lot of players who want to punch, PUNCH! things with their massive fists and go to town. When urged towards monk, they go: BUT RAGE!

...and that is a legit thing. The rage powers that break earth, or fling enemies backwards through the air fit that.

I've got to throw out some love though, for the Unchained barbarian. The "temp hit points" that keep refreshing are lovely. The extra DR rage powers are lovely and fit unto the "unarmored tank" playstyle.

That said, I'd like more inbuilt options to shake off status effects. This is similar, but a different flavor than the paladin. A paladin cures them through faith and virtue. The barbarian's like: "I don't want to deal with this now, so I'm not."

Also, why is my barbarian wearing armor?

Can anyone answer that question? ;D

Unchained barb is really the best way to play 2wf barb. + to hit stance generic + to hit/damage rather than strength. eventually get pounce...

My favorite barbarian is 5e.
As a first totem pic bear totem I had a blast using my dex + con to armor runing shirtless, what's more barbarian than that. Having a standard ac and on top of that every damage gets cut in half during rage. Using a greatsword and not caring about safety because you are have so much health.

Personally there where 3 or 4 good archetypes for barbarian on pathfinder.
And invulnerable rager is one of them.

And despite all the cool rage powers for me not going pounce and supersticion was like why I'm playing barbarian if not for those powers.

Back to topic my ideal barbarian. Is a shirtless two handed warrior that cares little for his own safety because he knows he is tough as nails.

Barbarian to me is the ultimate "smashy tank." They shrug off effects because they're as tough as nails. IR was a nod to that, but I'm curious with this post to see what others think, too.

I'm with you. I'd like the option in PF2e to not have armor (or at least, just light armor) on my barbarian.
