Gallows Part 3 | REBIRTH!

Hey Everyone! Welcome to Outpost! Let's get a few things out of the way, and a quick run down.

First: This is a really awesome, Really story filled scenario! You get out of it what you put into it, and I assure you, I'm going to be putting a -lot- into it.

Second: This will probably run a bit long for a PbP scenario. There are a few cool story parts that I want to make sure you get to Experience, which adds a bit of Real World time to the whole thing.

Third: There is a bit of Information that I need from you to get started. Let's Begin!

If you have played any of these adventures with this character, I would like to see the associated chronicle:

0-14 The Many Fortunes of Grandmaster Torch
2–07: Heresy of Man, Part 2: Where Dark Things Sleep
5–12: Destiny of the Sands, Part 1: A Bitter Bargain
6–04: Beacon Below
9–04: The Unseen Inclusion

In addition, I will have a bunch of additional questions throughout the scenario. I will probably ask 1 every few days, to make sure that I have all the information in one place, but not enough to be Overwhelming.

So, with all that aside, let's get going!

First I need:
Name or Forum Name (For the Chronicle)
Character Name (For the Chronicle)
PFS number-Character Number

Day job (If Applicable)

Player: Eric Bennett (aka "Nefreet")
Character: Jaswinder Aniljit (and Pratvah)
PFS ID#: 66548-11
Faction: Exchange
Day Job, Perform (Wind): 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (9) + 19 = 28
Scenarios: He played the Destiny of the Sands trilogy and I GMed Beacon Below (LINK)

RANGER SPELLS PREPARED (CL 7th):
1ST - Delay Poison, Gravity Bow (x2)
2ND - Barkskin (x2)

WEIRD STUFF:
• Pratvah has Snake Style. Her Sense Motive is +12 Default, +14 vs. Magical Beasts, and +16 vs. Humans/Evil Outsiders.
• Jaswinder is an Animal Friend to Snakes (I mention it because it's come up more than once).
• Jaswinder can detect and disable Magical Traps. For ease of use in PbP he Takes 10 on Perception and Disable Device for a 34.

QUESTION: How do you rule movement on a Flying Carpet?
There is no clarity on exactly how to use one. When I purchased it, I was under the assumption that the final line stating "The carpet is then controlled by spoken directions" would allow me my full round of actions while directing the carpet as a free action, but I've had GMs rule it to be everything from a Standard Action to even using the rules for Mounted Combat.

Player: Jack Brown
Character: Gunari Maximoff
PFS #: 74294-9
Faction: The Exchange
Day Job: diplomacy: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (3) + 21 = 24
Scenarios: None of those!

Gunari is a Warpriest of the Drunken Hero. He is a hard hitter, but not a great healer. He does have 4 (soon to be 5) Hallowed Chalices (which if drunk within 24 hours of him powering them with a channel will heal a follower of Cayden Cailean his channel dice of 3d6 by drinking).

He is mostly focused on personal spells, since they are able to be used with Fervor, but there are some interesting choices that are still personal!

His rapier, Cayden's Churchkey is normally a +2 keen holy reliquary adamantine rapier but is often enhanced by his sacred weapon ability (an additional +2 enhancement or equiv, for 10 rds/day). Also, because it is his sacred weapon, it is a 1d10 rather 1d6 rapier!

He does have about 10k in gold currently, so I may do some shopping prior to playing.

Oh, and he makes use of Cayden Cailean's alternate casting of create water -- he makes beer instead!

Let's talk tactics!

Pratvah is a grappler (+25) with Greater Grapple and Constrict, but only moves at 20 feet. If someone can Haste her, her effectiveness increases greatly. She has Narrow Frame so she doesn't have to clutter up tight spaces.

Jaswinder has a 5'x10' Flying Carpet that he will gladly share with a lightweight caster type (we have a Witch?). If you and your gear weigh more than 210 pounds, the Carpet moves at 30 feet instead of 40 feet.

Out of combat Jaswinder is a socialite and Trapfinder. +18 Bluff/Diplomacy/Intimidate/Sense Motive. He has a rank in nearly every skill and is +8 on all Knowledges.

During combat Jaswinder is an Archer, but he's not great at hitting unless we're facing Humans or Evil Outsiders. He has one Level of Bard and can Inspire Courage with Lingering Performance during the first round if people want. Usually it's so he can either cast Saving Finale or Countersong.

PURCHASES BEFORE GAME:
1,754.5 Starting Gold

-800 Cracked Magenta Prism Ioun Stone
-600 Scroll of Align Weapon (x4)
-100 Scroll of Deadeye's Lore (x4)
-100 Scroll of Mage Armor (x4)

Gunari is a sword and board fighter, who uses divine magic to buff himself. He quite lethal with his rapier, and can enhance it even more (one choice of enhancements, such as an additional +1 and merciful, or vicious, or ghost touch, etc...).

He has very good AC, but not as great CMD, which he often takes care of by prebuffing with freedom of movement now. He does have a single blessing of fervor per day.

The monkey stays home while adventuring.

Seldanna is indeed a witch, and a lighweight caster at that. Happy to hitch a ride on the carpet, although she can also use her Flight Hex for 9 minutes/day in 1 min intervals.

She mainly focuses on buff/debuff or battlefield control effects depending on the situation.

She can chip in with some healing via Healing Hex 1/day for each character.

Likely Spell List:

0-Stabilise, Detect Magic, Light, Read Magic
1-Air Bubble, Cause Fear, Charm Person, Command, Ear Piercing Scream, Enlarge Person,

3-Eldritch Fever, Haste, Howling Agony, Ray of Exhaustion, Stinking Cloud
4-Black Tentacles, Confusion, Summon Monster IV, Death Ward
5-Baleful Polymorph, Summon Monster V

The raven sadly doesn't stay home but tries to stay out of trouble as much as possible, either by flying or by hiding himself down in his mistress' hood on her back.

Kan-Jeh is a psychic flavored bloodrager, which allows for casting in all sorts of situations where one wouldn't be able to. He also tends to designate an enemy as his hated target, doing extra damage to that target until it has been running out of Kan-Jeh's sight for a minute or until it is dead. In the spirit of that, Kan-Jeh will focus fire a lot.

Having done dangerous dungeon crawl after dangerous dungeon crawl, Kan-Jeh has some nifty things; like a swarmbane clasp, scrolls of BoL, etc...

He has a timeworn gas mask, courtesy of a trip to the Red Redoubt, and a timeworn gravity clip in case more damage need be applied.

Finally, he was found by jungle fey (they exist). Thus your healing will heal him by an extra 2 for each dice you roll!

Oh, cool, Time Patron! My primary Scarab Sages character was also a Time Patron Witch. I went Wayang for extra creep factor. But he hit 12th a couple years back =(.

Riding on my carpet means you don't have to spend a standard action to activate your hex and saves you move actions, too. I assume you'll want to be within 30 feet of the action?

Although we're melee heavy, I think we have a good group! Blessing of Fervor and Haste will help this group tear people apart. And we technically have two Channelers if things go badly.

Normally, at an actual table, this is where I'd leave Pratvah behind. Six high tier characters are usually enough, and she's more of an insurance policy for smaller groups, but I don't think an extra digital figurine will slow things down.

Ardelaneu is also sword and board, Iomedean, aasimar, and somewhat focused on shielding others. He has Covering Shield to give an ally +6 Cover to AC when using Total Defense, but the usefulness of that action has been diminishing so I may retrain it. Missile Shield has come in handy, especially in Bonekeep. He generally tanks and lets others do the damage unless he can smite.

Having run this and argued extensively over the mechanics in GM discussion I will try to stay out of everyone's way. :)

Edit: Oh hey, Angelic Wings is 10th level, not 11th. I'll be retraining. :)

Let's unpack this, yes?

So, a Standard to activate (That makes sense. Don't want someone walking off with your carpet when you can yell and get it back.) Works like Overland Flight (with different speeds based on Load)and different prices based on Size / Capacity. Seems easy enough. Alright, here's my plan:

Works as per Overland Flight (If you want to move on it, it is your Move Actions) except it brings both people. Both people can direct it, for Simplicity's sake. The only thing that I will add (and probably won't come up, but I'd rather clarify now) is that as a moving platform, you could be Bullrushed etc. off of it, Gaining the Reflex save as normal to grab the edge if it is in the air. Seem reasonable enough?

This entire post is OOC

Khash looks like a fiendish version of Aladdin. He's Qadiran, originally, but escaped slavery and has worked for the Sapphire Sage ever since. His heritage is not easy to hide with his horns, back-facing (inverted) knees, large clawed feet (he wears no shoes), clawed hands, and long prehensile tail. They look fantastic with his bare chest, vest, poofy pants, and fez.

He's great with a scimitar, which he calls dancing (Dervish Dance feat), and is generally difficult to hit (AC 32 with shield). He tries to prepare a variety of useful spells depending on need and his companions.

Typical 15+ critical threat range, with intensified shocking grasp or snowball for particularly dangerous targets.

Since we have a lot of heavy hitters and no one else with haste
(right?), he'll have one of those prepared.

Here's my current load-out:
3rd—aroden’s spellsword, haste, vampiric touch
2nd—bladed dash, frigid touch[UM], glitterdust (DC 16), scorching ray
1st—call weapon, mage armor, shield, shocking grasp, snowball[UW]

Aroden's spellsword is for the lesser intense metamagic rod. I can include more utility spells when I get a chance to look at my spellbook, since it looks like we have plenty of front line attackers.

Grr. Update ate my original response.

GM Chie wrote:

I was afraid you'd say that. It is perhaps the most frustrating response I get, because riding anything else still gives you your full round of actions. A 30k+ item should have more functionality than a 60gp horse =\ At this point I wish I could retcon and just buy useful gear.

But you're not the first GM to rule that, and I will abide by it. Since the carpet can hover, can I also use it to five foot step?

Seldanna usually has Haste as one of her 3rd level slots. If we think it warranted, she could perhaps swap out one of her other 3rd level spells for an extra usage of Haste?

The Exchange

Male CG Human (Varisian) Warpriest 10 | HP:83/83| AC: 32 (15 tch, 30 Fl) | CMB: +10, CMD: 24| F: +13 (+5 vs cold weather), R: +9, W: +16 (+2 vs mind effecting) | Init: +1 | Perc: +7, SM: +18 | Blessing: 8/8, Fervor 3/10, SacWeap (9/10r), SacArm (7/10m), Shirt 0/1 | Pearl 1 1/3, Pearl 2 0/1, Extend: (2/6), Heroism (0/1), Chalices (2/4), Corset 0/1 | Active: Divine Favor +4, BoF

Extra hastes would be good, especially given how many melee characters we have. Haste is probably the best 3rd level spell in the game, hands down.

I can only really afford one Blessing of Fervor (it is one of my two 4th level spells).

I do pack an invisibility purge, (it is a personal spell!), so that can help if we know there are invisible enemies around. I have a few things to tweak, myself, so will need to get an updated character sheet up. I can pack an extra of these if you all think it would help.

I have (currently) delay poison, and delay poison, communal, so I can get us all poison immunity for 5 hours (with a use of my lesser extend metamagic rod), and myself for 10 hours.

Absolutely! Including up (at a 45°) if need be. Your ride along would also move the 5 feet, which could be Incredibly Helpful!

Additionally, compared to the WINGS OF FLYING which cost more and use a slot, the Carpet of Flying isn't an awful deal for Permanent Overland flight? Especially when you have a Ride Along.

Now, if you could convince your rider to use their move actions on their turn, I don't see a reason why you couldn't do your Bow Full attacks, raining down death from above!

Well, worst case, I do memorize at least one lesser restoration, a scroll with 5 lesser restorations (a great 2PP purchase) and can cast restoration, though he doesn't really want to take one of his two level 4 slots for that. But, we can get repaired before 24 hours is up!

Warpriests do have the full cleric's spell list, just he doesn't have a lot of spells per day. He also has a scroll of breath of life that he keeps in a spring-loaded wrist sheath. He would be willing to put a second one in his second wrist sheath, if someone had one.

I would suggest everyone keeping a supply of 100-5000gp in diamonds with them (for spell components), as they can be freely converted back into cash, as needed.

We should be prepared, as it looks like we're a little under APL'd (9.83, with 2 9s and only 1 11.

I would suggest that everyone have at least one anti-toxin and at least one anti-plague, just in case. Well, the former may be somewhat moot with Delay Poison, but...

Also, just noticed that Jaswinder also memorizes delay poison, so that could mean the communal only needs to divide 4-ways, so that would be ~7 hours each.

Ardelaneu Zakath has cursed, diseased, and fatigued as his mercies, so perhaps that will handle two more of your concerns! Ardelaneu, have you looked in to getting meditation crystals? These can give you half-again as many lay on hands, at least for the first day!

Kan-Jeh has told a lie or two in his time (+17 bluff).

So that leaves us with negative energy to deal with, and to a lesser extent, some ability drain or damage.

I could get a scroll with two castings of Haste and maybe two of those crystals for Zakath.

Death Ward could be a solution for any energy drain or negative energy shenanigans. But I can't afford it.

My apologies. Khash will keep a single haste prepared just in case you're busy or stunned or something. I've swapped out his usual displacement for it. I think we'll be fine.

Naw, always to hard to remember what lies you've told when you're negotiating and the like. Just easier to tell the truth, then you only have to remember what really happened. Which can be hard, especially if you've been sampling a lot of brewers' wares.

Which reminds me, there was this stabby-stabby fellow I ran into a while back. Gave me a hit of something he called "Hype", I think it was. Wonder if I should look Raven up to see if I could get some more. It was an.. exhilarating experience. Made me realize what it felt like to be a gnome!

Ok, so Seldanna will swap in a 2nd Haste spell instead of Ray of Exhaustion.

Spell List:
0-Stabilise, Detect Magic, Light, Read Magic
1-Air Bubble, Cause Fear, Charm Person, Command, Ear Piercing Scream, Enlarge Person,
2-Blindness/Deafness, False Life, Glitterdust, Hold Person, Silence, Vomit Swarm
3-Eldritch Fever, Haste, Haste, Howling Agony, Stinking Cloud
4-Black Tentacles, Confusion, Summon Monster IV, Death Ward
5-Baleful Polymorph, Summon Monster V

She will purchase a scroll of Breath of Life (1125 gp, is that right?). She'll slip that into her own wrist sheath.

She'll also cash in 5,000gp worth of coins into diamonds as suggested.

Actually, re: Scroll of Breath of Life, just remembered that Seldanna can't cast that, so yes if Gunari has a spare wrist sheath for it then that would be great. Seldanna was my first ever PFS character to die last time she played. Hit by a Save or Die spell. Pricey business being raised from the dead! :(

Gunari has set aside 5100gp in diamonds, just in case, since he's saving up.

He also buys 2 antiplague (I realize now his antitoxin are probably pointless, given Delay Poison).

He is also making his shield and armor into holy reliquary (just makes them holy symbols, basically).

He will also spend 2PP on a scroll w/ 2 Heroism

Unless we think of something in game, that's about it

say, Jaswinder, any chance you could memorize Life Bubble as your 3rd level spell (assuming you haven't given that up). I have a lesser rod of extend magic you can use to extend it... that would be an amazing help for the team!

I didn't notice which spells you had memorized...

Ranger Spells prepared.

Bard Spells Known are on my Profile.

He's only a 10th Level Ranger. I don't have a 3rd Level Slot available for Life Bubble, although I can read a scroll of it if you have one.

What about springing a party for the sages before we leave? I'm sure we could manage a heroes feast. :)

That sounds like a GREAT idea.

So, Caster level × spell level × 10 gp3

11 * 6 * 10 = 660gp, right?
So, 110gp each.

We could also get a Life Bubble (3 hours each) cast for us for a mere
9 * 5 * 10 = 450gp (75gp each)
though this doesn't cover the familiar and AC. If we increase to a 12th level caster, we can get it for 3 hours on each of the critters, too.
12 * 5 * 10 = 600gp (100gp each)

I'd be for that!

Hopefully the sages will be able to tell us if we can plan for that timeline.

Any other spells that we should have?
With these we'll have:

Heroes Feast
Delay Poison
Life Bubble

Jaswinder, if Gunari lends you a pearl of power 2, will you cast Barkskin on him (when appropriate)?

Also, Gunari is going to pay 60gp for a casting of Darkvision (5 hours).

(so if we agree, that will be 210gp each for the Life Bubble and Heroes Feast. Darkvision is an extra 60.)

I will purchase one less Scroll of Align Weapon, in that case, so I can afford the 210gp, although generally I'm not in favor of such buffs at the beginning of the Adventure. All too often time has expired by the time we reach our first combat. But if this scenario is supposed to be deadly, better safe than sorry.

So, looking through my chronicles and faction cards... I get 50gp from Family Tradition to spend on services and such, and 150gp from the season 7 The Exchange card, for a total of 200gp. That leaves 60gp he covers out of pocket.

I think that the buffs will probably come in more handy than additional meditation crystals, honestly.
