When a necklace of fireball goes nova

Lots of threads on how to make one go nova, but I couldn’t find one about when it does.

Basic question is, when the necklace goes nova is it one big boom or many silmiltanious ones. Do people in the area get one save or one per remaining sphere, and does fire resistance apply once or once per sphere?

I've always ruled it as individual explosions, so fire resistance applies multiple times, there are multiple saves, etc.

The detonations are individual. Each one gets a separate saving throw and fire resistance check.

which is why it's best to put 4 or 5 of them on statues within 30ft and paint them to match so there are at least 10+ unattended object saving throws per iteration. make em go ehh ehh ehh!

Recently I was playing an adventure path where this item gets used by a bad guy to create an impromptu trap. It was treated as a magical trap and so there was only one save.

My character who had the misfortune of standing just inside the blast radius went from full hp to dead dead in an instant.

I don't know if the adventure path specifies that it's only one save or if that was just my DM's interpretation. He did comment that it was messed up. Since, because it was treated as a magical trap it could of only been disarmed via a character with Trap Finding.

Thankfully the cleric was able to bring me back with a breath of life.
