Homunculi for the bloodless

Rules Questions

Can creatures who do not have blood of their own, create a Homunculus? Off-hand I'd say no, but some PCs have particular Homunculi as a class feature. Could one be made using the blood of another, and then ownership be transferred perhaps? Or are the Undead or Constructs simply out of luck here?

'cause I really like the idea of a Trompe 'l Oeil Promethean Alchemist...

mmm, it looks like a trompe l'oeil has construct traits, which means it's immune to bleed. No bleed, no blood? That seems pretty reasonable to me.

Besides, a homunculus created by a trompe l'oeil isn't a trompe l'oeil creature itself, is it?

It's a fun creature, though. Imagine going after a doppleganger wizard and his army of trompe l'oeils. Or in conjunction with enter image. Is that a trompe l'oeil, or is that mesmerist just being a jerk with his paintings again?

Hence the Promethean Alchemist - they get Craft Construct at level 1. So a Gnome Alchemist can make an animated self-portrait for a mere 1500gp. Which then can make it's own copy at the same price. Keep 'em financed, and they'll craft exponentially more painted ladies and gentlemen.

It's just a shame the copies lose out on the Homunculus. Unless perhaps you start painting them with blood...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Isn't this part of the ichor assumption?

(a pun on core assumption)

Another's blood can be used but then the creature is the blood donors.

I'd look into a migras or soul bound doll. There are several helpful spells but the one I'm thinking of requires the caster's blood.
