The Problem with Goblins: A Compromise / Solution?

Prerelease Discussion

Why not brand goblins as a BONUS ANCESTRY in the core rulebook and include a HANDLE WITH CARE sidebar to warn GMs of potential pitfalls?

Silver Crusade

I think they said in the Know Direction interview that the goblin entry would have one such sidebar.

Thanks for the update.

Then I guess my question becomes: Then why is this storm still raging out of control?

I think it's very naive to assume that that will be anywhere near enough. People are going to want to play the goblin that they've been seeing and published material for a decade, and some GM's are going to want to let them even at the expense of other players.

This sounds like a GM and group issue, not a ruleset issue...

Hmm, good question think it deserves another thread...

I feel like a bunch of the ancestries could use a sidebar as advice for how to handle potential issues-

"Our Elves are Different"
"Half-Orcs and Implications of Sexual Violence"
"Gnomes and Pranks: Drawing the Line"
"Halflings and Real World Systems of Opression"
etc.

Is half-orc sexual violence a thing in Golarion? If its not, its best to leave it out and just say its never been a part.

PF1 CRB leads with:

Quote:
As seen by civilized races, half-orcs are monstrosities, the result of perversion and violence—whether or not this is actually true. Half-orcs are rarely the result of loving unions, and as such are usually forced to grow up hard and fast, constantly fighting for protection or to make names for themselves.

So we should probably address the elephant in the room head on. Since this has the potential to cause way worse problems than "Goblins being Wacky".
