OA2 Mavaro in PFSACG: how does deckbuilding work?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Society

OA2 Mavaro has this in his card list: "When building your deck, you may treat 1 or more cards of 1 type of boon as boons of your favoured card type."

The problem here is that you choose your favoured card type at the beginning of the scenario, presumably for the scenario. However, building your deck happens after the scenario, so what exactly do you do?

Also, how does OA2 Mavaro's deckbuilding work in OP?

So let's say I start with base Mavaro and have a card list of 2 weapons, 3 spells, 1 armor, 5 items, 1 ally and 3 blessings. But I really want allies (because I'm going into a scenario heavy on diplomacy and that's one of my only ways to get them).

So I want allies to go into my item slots, so I want to "treat 1 or more allies as items".

1) Do I have to pick item as my favoured card type for all scenarios from this point onward if I want to keep this property?
2) What happens if I change one or two of these parameters? Let's say the scenario calls for more combat and I want to get more spells into my deck instead. If I want to "treat 1 or more spells as items" instead, do I fill out the deck with spells and/or items and lose as many allies as I need to to stay legal? Or if I want to "treat blessings as weapons", and take a blessing deck upgrade can I have a deck with 1 weapon, 4 blessings, 1 ally and 5 items?

I'm not sure how this works, but

Sounds like a quick way to refresh your card selection. Say you want to change your spells from combat focused to more support/utility. Fill up your item slots with those basic utility spells you want, then next game switch to allies and banish all those extra combat spells.

That could be pretty handy if you take an upgrade with different checks to acquire. Trade out your basic cards for ones with different checks you can use for skills.

Okay, so here's the sequence in Organized Play:
Start of a scenario, you pick your favored card. Let's say you pick Spells. You get to have a Spell in hand at the start of the scenario, obviously.
During the scenario, you pick up an Item 1, which would be an upgrade for you.
So, at the end of the scenario when you're rebuilding, you take Item 1 as your upgrade. But you also like all your current items, so you decide to use your special power to treat that new Item 1 as if it were a Spell, dropping a basic spell and putting that item in its place in your deck.

Next scenario starts, and you decide to choose Weapon as your favored card because you didn't have a weapon in-hand at the start of the last scenario. This time you pick up a brand new Item 2, and you're like "OH MAN, SO EXCITING!"
End of that scenario, you want to keep all your items AND pick up another new Item 2, so you decide to use your power to treat Items as Weapons, and you drop 2 Basic weapons from your deck, replacing them with your Item 1 and Item 2 from these two scenarios. You also pick up a Basic spell from the box to replace that spell that you banished at the end of the first scenario.

Make sense? I'm pretty sure that's how it would go.

In the next scenario, you choose weapon again, because why not, then you pick up an Ally 2!
Those basic items aren't as exciting anymore, so you decide to treat Allies as Weapons, drop two basic items and replace them with your new ally 2 and either a basic weapon or basic ally from the box.

Does that look right?

Yep, I think that's the way it would work! (This is just another reason that Mavaro is incredibly awesome... not that he needed any more reasons! :))
