Fan Made Survey: What Spells Do You Want To See?

Prerelease Discussion

Sczarni RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32

Because I'm curious and liked Mona's archetype survey, here is one of my own. I'm not a part of Paizo at all so take this as purely a fun survey/discussion.

What five spells from outside of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook would you love to see sooner rather than later?

I can even start!

Possibly because I love playing the witch, but my top five are:

  • Lipstich While not always the best choice in a combat, I love the flavor and utility of this spell. It is not only horrifying, but can actually prevent some foes from being effective if used correctly.

  • Ill Omen Force a foe to roll twice and take the lowest? Heck yes. With PF1's critical hit system this almost guaranteed that the target wouldn't get one, and it really helped to set up some save-or-suck abilities and spells when I played a witch.

  • Blistering Invective This not only allows you to make an Intimidate check against multiple targets, but has the potential to set them on fire!

  • Limp Lash This needed a bit of work to clarify and balance out but even after all that I enjoyed using it a few times on our enemies.

  • Call The Void My spellcasters always seemed to end up right next to the enemy, and this spell helped me make sure they regretted getting so close.

    Top 5 Non-Core Spells
  • Ablative Barrier: This buffs healing, and it has routinely saved lives in my groups.
  • Hedging Weapons: Would prefer this to Shield of Faith. It is more thematic, provides a similar role, and gives a backup attack.
  • Blistering Invective: Big area debuffs, no save damage, and lights foes on fire. Mix it in with a great flavor and it becomes a staple of my Bards.
  • Secluded Grimoire: Never been a fan of classes that can have their whole schtick literally stolen. This prevents that.
  • Chord of Shards: I like that it gives bards AoE to fight swarms with, and it also looks really friggin cool in my head.

Liberty's Edge

I don't know if I could pick five, but three in particular I've enjoyed.

Blistering Invective is flavourful and fun, and has special effects that aren't just reliant on spell DCs. Alternative methods like skill checks to determine effect is nice and allows more variety in spells' power levels.

Monstrous Physique had an awkward selection of forms, but monstrous humanoids interest me much more than animals as polymorph targets.

Unflappable Mein keep away!

Shadow Shield, from NWN, cool spell.

Ice Glaciers (Lord Nekron), because I simply still love Fire and Ice among other old animated films.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Monkeyfish, it just has to be in.

I want 3.5's Arcane Strike as a spell.

Burn a spell slot to get +1 to hit and +1d4 damage per spell level.

The +1 to hit will probably need tweaking, given how the proficiency system works, and if it costs an action to cast the spell, it will become significantly weaker.

I'd probably write the spell like this:

Arcane Strike
Level: 1 (arcane)
School: Abjuration
Components: Somatic
Range: Touch
Target: Weapon touched
This spell imbues a weapon with magical power, granting a +1 bonus to all attacks made with that weapon and causing it to deal an additional 1d6 force damage.

At higher levels: Increase the bonus force damage by 1d6 per spell level beyond 1st. Increase the bonus to attacks by 1 at spell levels 3, 6 and 9.
