Request: flexible condition relief

Prerelease Discussion

There was one thing I learned when trying to play an oracle as a healer in a Pathfinder campaign: condition relief sucks when you have limited spells known. While the PF2 core rules won't have oracles, and I reckon clerics/druids will still have access to their whole spell list with a night's rest, I'd still like to strike a blow for reducing the number of spells needed to remove various conditions. Currently, you need:

1st - Remove fear
2nd - Lesser restoration, remove paralysis
3rd - Remove blindness/deafness, remove curse, remove disease
4th - Neutralize poison, restoration
5th - Break enchantment
6th - Heal
7th - Greater restoration, regenerate

One of the things I like most about 5e is the simplification of most of these into Lesser restoration (disease, blindness, deafness, paralyzed, poisoned), Remove curse, Greater restoration (incorporating remove curse, and moved to 5th level), and Regenerate. I'd love to see something like this done with PF2 as well. Perhaps just import the Remove Condition spells from Starfinder?

Put this in the Heal Skill at low cost for time [and perhaps in a few cases some money, but not an excessive amount.]

Remove Conditions or Restoration as a 1st or 2nd level spell that heals more and more stuff when cast in higher level spell slots would be a good option.

Core inclusion of +SpellsKnown items seems an automatic to me.

I'm truly hoping they take a page from Starfinder here, and simply have "Remove Lesser/Standard/Greater Condition."

You really cannot wait until level 5 spells for Break Enchantment, not even until level 3 with Dispel Magic.
Calm Emotions at level 1
Suppress Charms & Compulsions at level 2

But yes, with this resonance thing going on, I have to wonder about the Lesser Restoration being an issue as well if there is no longer easy access to consumables like wands.

Also, it would be nice to know what exactly are effects that can be cured via Dispel Magic. If you are hit with Baleful Polymorph or Blindness-Deafness, how can those conditions get removed?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

This is running counter to the other requests a bit, but I'd like curses specifically to still be tough to get rid of. Traditionally, that's kind of been their schtick.

I agree, but with explicit design guidelines. Traditionally curses are long-lasting, hard to get rid of nagging things.

The chaos beast however has a curse that deals wisdom drain per minute. This seems to me to be a violation of the (unwrittten) design of conditions. Unlike a poison it doesn't run its course in a couple of rounds. And unlike curses there's no time to seek out an NPC caster to provide relief.
