A Change in Scenery

Advice

So, I'm thinking about running Curse of the Crimson Throne in the future. I'm going to be making some changes by adding elements from other adventure paths and modules, as well as making changes to characters. But the biggest change I'm thinking about is changing the setting entirely.

The idea I have is that the events of CotCT and Korvosa take place in a land like Orision. I originally wanted to say that Varisia's borders expanding into part of Orision and Korvosa was established there. However, I looked at the map and there are so many countries between Varisia and Korvosa with their own rich history.

My question is how can I make this happen while keeping those countries in existence? Would this be a type of situation where I could do whatever I want? Any ideas would be great.

Bump.

Any thoughts?

Well, I've never played Crimson Throne. I hear that there's a subforum dedicated to the adventure path?

But, honestly, it's your campaign; you can change whatever you need to to make the setting and the story work.

Thank you for your thoughts. I already posted this in the subforum for CotCT. I have posted this here so I can get thoughts from two different sides.

Do you want to plop something already written out, like a module or other prepackaged setting, or do you want to write your own homebrew?
Writing out something new is a lot of work let me just say...

It's not hard, but you're going to need to keep a lot of notes.

1) Replace all place names with alternate place names, being careful to alter any appropriate environmental effects. For example, IIRC, part of CotCT takes place in the Flamelands on the Storval Plateau... I could easily see a similar place somewhere in Osirion, you just have to reflavor the tribes.

2) Replace any NPCs holding positions of authority with an equivalent post in the new country setting. I don't know much about Osirion, apart from the notion that it's an ancient Egypt analog. It seems to me that the power-hungry nobles theme would be right at home there.

i have run AND played CotCT each once. Korvosa is very rich in detail and information, so much so that i have essentially made it the go to "Waterdeep" of my groups Pathfinder campaigns.

Now to give context, "Waterdeep" is Forgotten Realms and was the starting point of most all of my groups campaigns, whether i was DMing or one of the group was taking over for 20 years before Pathfinder.

what i'm trying to say is it is very fleshed out, while not up to 25 years worth of "Waterdeep" updates, Korvosa gives a lot of great NPC's (if the players don't kill them all), good intrigue and overall i'd say it's a place ripe for growth and is a good place for established PC's to retire (allowing for players to bring in new characters that may have ties to said retired PC's).

Placing the "core" of Korvosa in Orision you may run into trouble introducing Korvosan Royalty tying into Established Orision government of the area. like you said, rich history. If your going to make your own version of Golorian you can always cut a paste what you need to fit your narrative. like Wheldrake said, take notes of your changes so you don't get lost in your own world.

Its going to take a lot of managing... but have two sets of sourcebooks out.

That way you can pull freely from the Pathfinder Campaign Settings and even the Mummy's Wrath AP as you need to for locations and pre-gen NPCs/Monsters. Transplant one Adventure's set of NPCs for the other. Ileosa would still exist as that Gold-Digging Queen along with her Grey Maidens (a defining group of NPCs in that campaign), but anything else you can sub-in using pre-gren Osirion/Mummy's Wrath NPCs.

And... why settle for Osirion? Any adventure worth transplanting is much more enriched by dropping the party into scenic Ustalav, where Horror replaced Wednesday. You don't want to know what happened to Monday.

A year on I'm betting the OP has made any choices about the game that are there to be made, or else the game never happened and never will.
