[Kobold Press] Class Preview: Theurge (New Paths Compendium)

Liberty's Edge

We’ve previewed a number of the 12 new and expanded Pathfinder Roleplaying Game classes in the recently released hardcover edition of the New Paths Compendium.

Next up—the theurge!

Some spend their lives poring over ancient tomes and texts. Others devote their lives to the gods, acting as emissaries of the divine. The theurge seeks to achieve a perfect balance between the divine and the arcane, blending both kinds of magic into a powerful and cohesive whole. Theurges revel in the unbridled wonders of magic, regardless of its source. They strive to refine their magical abilities and are often consumed by their quest to accomplish ever greater feats of spellcasting.

You can check out the full Theurge preview here!

Be sure to also check out our previews of the:
White Necromancer
Skin-Changer
Tinkerer
Warlock
Mystic Archer

The Exchange Kobold Press

That is a LOT of previews! And hearing more and more reports of New Paths characters.

I'm thinking one of my theurge NPCs should take on an apprentice. Might make a decent backstory for a PC.

How has this Theurge changed from the previous version?

The theurge has not changed a lot but a major if subtle change is they are limited to only wizard and cleric spell instead of all arcane and divine spells. This changes eliminates the major objection to the class, which was they could become the best magic item makers in a campaign setting. A welcome change.

I love the class. They trade the raw power of a specialist wizard or cleric for versatility.

Saint Bernard.

Thanks Saint Bernard - I think that covers it very nicely!

The Theurge also did receive one brand-new class feature, as well.

Hey, if you have the time, please consider posting a review, even a short one. Reviews are always *extremely* appreciated and, as you can expect, Third Party Publishers really do live and die by reviews (and word of mouth of course)!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I will do a review, it may take me a couple of days to get it written.

Check out one of the Theurge’s new class abilities!

Wand Adept (Su): A theurge of 9th level or higher can use his innate magic to power wands. When he wields a wand that contains a spell on one of his spell lists, the theurge uses his own ability score (Intelligence for arcane spells, Wisdom for divine spells) to determine the wand’s save DC. At 14th level, a theurge uses his caster level when activating the power of a wand if it’s higher than the caster level of the wand.
