I have been detered from running games due to social anxiety and a medical condition that makes me feel unexpectedly ill at any given moment. There's also the issue for me is that conventions feel criminally short and many conventions have tons of different games to play and try out. Oftentimes I feel like I'm not making the best use of the convention by playing or running a game I can do at home.

Despite this, I really want to GM. I tried using the con boons to persuade myself to do it despite the anxiety. However, that plan failed after I became discouraged for running a game at an online con only to find out the VC couldn't get con support for it.

If you are talking about TPKon, I believe that what happened is that they got approved for Con Support that then failed to arrive in time for the convention. Alas, this is happening at in person conventions as well. I attended a convention in Canada, Jim Con, where we all got our GM Boons mailed to us after the convention ended.

So... Although TPKon has not yet received its support, I believe that the organizers have recorded everyone's contact information and hope to send out the GM boons once they receive them from the Organized Play office.

I am so sorry that you experienced this disappointment, Cyrad. Know that James and the other VTT VOs doing their level best to get this corrected after the fact.

Hi Cyrad,

I've messaged you personally to talk in more detail but I can only apologise for what happened. We are doing the absolute best we can to get the support promised for you and everyone else who played and ran scenarios at TPKon.

I can promise you that we won't rest until everyone has all the boons they deserve and we are taking every action possible to ensure that such a thing doesn't happen again, the moment we have more news and can start getting boons out to you we'll announce it.

Once again, my apologies and I hope that you will give online play another chance, we'd love to have you back.

I"ll preface this by saying that I am a terrible GM, which is probably why I haven't got my first star yet (that or being lazy :))

In answer to the OP, is GMing worth it? Yes, if the party enjoy the game. If not - and that can be for all sorts of reasons, not necessarily to do with what you are doing, it can be a miserable slog.

But if you expect things to be a slog it ibecomes a self fulfilling prophesy - I know that as a (non-PFS) GM in the past I have worked myself into a certainty that everything will go wrong before the game even starts, and that then colours how I ran the game, and reduced everyone's enjoyment.

But when it all comes together, it's totally worth it.

For me, I think it's worth it if I'm running a scenario I enjoy. I can have an amazing time running Traitor's Lodge, Twisted Circle, or Scions of the Sky Key Part 2 for example. Also, I've run a lot of things because the local play group requested a scenario, and I think it's only fair that I should run as well as play. Someday I'll even get to my 5th star.

Thanks for reaching out, Hilary and Richard. I will add that while it was disappointing for my plan to combat the anxiety of GMing for PFS, I did have fun at TPKon5, which most certainly helped!

I am so glad that you had a good time, Cyrad! We want our GMs to feel supported and to enjoy their tables. Congratulations by the way on taking that first step of GMing PFS at a con!

I am on the mind that some PFS scenarios should not be played by PbP.
