Hey everybody,
Is there anyone who has experience with the eye king template? I really want to use it in an upcoming game.
I was thinking of using a large elemental with 2 wysps which would come up to a CR8 in total. The elementals have a lot of hit dice for their CR and that really helps with the eye rays. Right now my mind is set on an ice elemental with an air wysp and a water wysp. All of them would have the eye king template. The numbing cold ability would work on any of the rays of the ice elemental that have the cold descriptor.
Are there any other creatures that would work great as eye kings? What would be a good emanation for the central eye?
What is an eye king? Some sort of 'not a beholder' template? What book is it from?
Ah, a 3rd party supplement, explains why I'm not familiar with it.
Assuming it is a template that gives beholder like powers, I can't imagine ANY creature not being pretty great when given it. If a floating ball of gas is terrifying with beholder powers (which it is) then just about anything else would be even scarier.
The traditional central eye is anti-magic. I don't know what choices you have.

The central eye must be a cleric or sorcerer spell, up to level 4. It must be an EMANATION. Silence is a possibility, as is lesser globe of invulnerability.
The eye rays must be cleric or sorcerer spells of level 1-4. That would be 2 level 1 spells, 2 level 2 spells, etc.
As I want to go for an ice elemental, ice themed spells would be a good choice, mostly because of the numbing cold ability. I realize an air elemental would be better because of its stats, but I like the idea of adding two different Eye King Wysps. Air and water in this case.
Large elementals aren't too clever, so I don't want him too be too tactical. The Wysps are both smarter and wiser, but they'll have less options.

I was a Kickstarter backer for the book (the 3.5 original is one of my all-time favorite Green Ronin titles, and the PF edition is even better!) but I have yet to use the Eye King template.
Well, except to see how obscenely nasty an eye king tyrannosaurus would be, just as a nightmarish thought experiment...

Well, the thing with humanoids is that it would be very easy to manipulate the CR. Take a Kobold, slap on 5 NPC levels and you'd have a CR3 Eye King Kobold with an at will 3rd level spell-like ability and a continuous 3rd level spell-like ability. I might just do that though...
Maybe I should add a Gas Spore that is being moved around by an eye ray of the Eye Kings.
