Town Taxes

Rules Questions

What would the annual tax total be for the Town of
Sandpoint? When the Region Tax Collector come calling,
How much gold would the Mayor of Sandpoint need to disperse
to make sure the town is in good standing, and pay the tax due?

Off the wall question, I know....

I’m not looking at a per person tax, I’m looking for a
Big lump sum payment Sandpoint would have to pay,
and not be delinquent in paying Taxes.

Sandpoint is pretty much an independent colony of Magnimar. Technically Magnimar claims it, but not in a really meaningful way.

Any taxes the city collects would likely stay in city, not go anywhere else.

As for how much money that would be...what does it matter unless your players are going to try and steal the whole thing?

In which case, just set up a scenario where they get some of the money but not all of it. Something that would be appropriate for their wealth by level.

Population of 1240, 1/4 children, 1/4 old. 620 left. 1/4 of that stay at homemakers leaves 465, 10% unemployed. Leaves 419 workers. 200gp/year each with taxes of 10% that's 8380 gp. Let's say half goes to "state" taxes.. 4190gold. Probably collected quarterly so 1047~ go per collection...

On my phone and in my head so forgive any math errors :)

If your PCs are planning a heist on a tax shipment, just do it like any other encounter, with loot appropriate to the CR of whatever guard contingent you choose.

I'm thinking he's wanting his PC to cover the taxes that are coming due from the Taxfest (holiday of Abadar).
i.e. cover the taxes due from the township and the surrounding populace.
In the game we're playing the town and the local population have suffered a series of hardships that are wreaking havoc on the ready cash supply of the mundane farmer and shop keeper. i.e. having the rebuild burnt down houses.
Governments are normally very reluctant to forgo taxes and it could become a stressful situation for both government and locals. It's assumed in this game that Sandpoint sends the collected taxes to Magnimar with a percentage remaining for the Sandpoint government itself.
The PC's motives have some self-interest as she's wanting to run for mayor of Sandpoint the next election.
So, what we're looking for is some sort of rough number to go by or some method of calculating such number.

The PC might be more likely to start a tax relief fund for those in need of assistance. It would create a more one-on-one situation for public relations purposes.
