I think someone's been reading my character background.

I have been playing Pathfinder since Season 3 and even when I deliberately attempt to create a character that follows the ongoing storyline I have never had one that is so perfectly matched to scenarios as my first Starfinder character is.

My Starfinder character is a female damaya lashunta Envoy with the Icon theme and Profession (Vidgamer). Her name is Vooshkadara of Komena, better known to her fans by her gamer handle, pewpewfry. My concept from the beginning is that she is a rising star in the Vidgame circuit. While she has some design credits to her name, her fame comes mostly from competition victories both solo and as a team leader. She is known for her piloting skills in World of Spacecraft and her skills with a laser pistol in the HighScan franchise (where she has earned a cameo appearance as an NPC in the latest update). She is also well known for her leadership skills and killer glare that can even intimidate her Free Captain ex-boyfriend.

When the Starfinder Society began their recent recruitment drive after the Scoured Stars Incident, she saw this as an opportunity. If she joined the Starfinder Society, she could put her Vidgame honed skills to more practical use, help the society by lending her fame to their recruitment efforts, and expand her fame by vid-blogging her exploits (she asks party members to sign waivers during the mission briefing).

And then I played #1-05 The First Mandate.

The First Mandate:
After we were given our briefing on Zo, I made a beeline for him at the Gala. In the first round I broke the ice by asking him if the rumor was true that if you binge-watch all 200 seasons of The Necromancer you turn undead at the end, and then telling him about my exploits on Salvations End where I became a goblin chieftain. In the second round I followed this up by pitching my idea for a reality show revolving around my Society exploits and handed him my vid-resume. In the third round I decided to Sense Motive on Zo to find out what bonus things I could do to curry favor with him and ironically found out I had just done them by simply playing in character. When the GM asked if I would be changing targets on the fourth round my response was, “I’m sticking with Zo until I get a contract.”

Then I read the blurb for #1-09 Live Exploration Extreme!

OMG! LOOKS LIKE I GOT MY CONTRACT!

This is getting very weird (but very cool).

The whole Envoy, Icon, Vidgamer path appears to be very common. I know of at least 3 characters in my area who have a similar background.

I might also suggest that you take a look at playing in the recently released Starfinder Society #1–07: The Solar Sortie which would probably fit your character concept VERY well! :)

And it is really fun to watch people play it, too! :)

"Well, then. I am looking forward to helping broker information gathering on this PathStarfinder mission!"

Background:
Teearseeaich, or 'TRCH', is a faithful reproduction of the ancient villain 'Grandmaster Torch' from the old 'Golarionland' theme park, from before the time that androids had their freedom. There WILL be significant table variation between this Envoy Icon(information broker) and any historical antecedents...

“CLEARLY they have heard about my exploits and are all just wannabees”

OOC: The character concept kind of jumped out at me while I was reading the rules. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised it jumped out at other people.

One of the downsides to organized play versus a home game is that you never get an adventure written specifically for your character. The fact that multiple Year 1 adventures seem to be written with my character in mind is both uncanny and awesome.

My -702 is a mechanic icon vidgamer, but as a GM in Portland Oregon I've noticed that as well. Certainly the most popular profession.

Its only a matter of time before we see a dataphiles scenario where, to make contact with an infamous hacker in possession of critical information, the party must enter into a VR esports competition the hacker is known to compete in.

I'm starting to think we need a list of the major vidgames & esports.
(Technomancer, icon, vidgamer)

I only started vidgaming because my true profession, Hacker, is somehow not as well known as being a simple vidgamer. The times that I hacked the Bluerise tower get me less Street Cred than a simple Farley's Crossing victory.
Mechanic, Icon, Hacker (with an additional Profession of Vidgamer, because why not?)

There's probably a few wanting to know if they're as good in real life as in a game, a few who are bored of just sitting in front of a screen, and some of us who are just curious to see what's out there...

In character: "But of course! That's why the advertising/recruitment campaign I coordinated with Luwazi Elsebo worked so well. You saw the ads and went "Hey, that's just what I was looking for!"

One of our local players has Profession: Corporate Professional and chose a necktie as his Masterwork Tool, which he wears over his armor.

It was a comical detail, made all the more humorous when he eventually played in a scenario where the NPC art depicted the same thing!

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/55/5 ** Venture-Lieutenant, Florida—Melbourne

SFS continues to write scenarios that seem to be written with my character in mind. I am not sure how that is happening, but the level of personal investment I am getting out of SFS so far has exceeded that of any of my PFS characters. Whatever you are doing, please keep doing it.

Also, does anyone else feel the same way?

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/55/55/55/5 ***** Venture-Captain, Texas—Austin

Yeh I have a character who has Profession(Streamer), who "live" streams his adventures.

Between First Mandate, Solar Sortie, and Live Exploration Extreme!, he is having quite a lucrative career.

In a slightly different tack, I have a damaya lashunta xenobiologist envoy who thought 1-03, 1-10, and 1-13 were written for her and assumes that Fitch is just warming her seat for her eventual assumption of responsibility for all Wayfinder operations. ;)

But no...seriously...1-10 was a *character defining experience* for her. That level of character investment just doesn't happen in Org Play.

It's good to hear that these adventures are resonating so strongly. We've been having a blast coming up with a wide range of adventure concepts that both lay new ground and also play on traditional sci-fi tropes we expect you'd like to experience firsthand. Thursty in particular's been really good about listening to what excites the community and bringing that to our planning meetings, so we've definitely benefited from hearing what players want to see more.

My –701 was built as a jungle survivalist who's background was heavy artillery support for xenowildlife hunting expeditions. He'll be 7th Level next week, and he still hasn't played anything he was built for -_-

(if you're taking suggestions ^_^)

He's signed up to play Save the Renkrodas! this week. Hoping there's something he can take advantage of there.

Sorry you missed the opportunity, but the second book of the Dead Suns AP was, hands down, the mod you were looking for.

After GMing it I wanted to hit the book with a flame thrower to ensure no larvae survived. AP2 made all the PCs wish for death. AP3 was so much nicer.

I was the first in my area to GM it, and I gave him the credit.

That was actually the inspiration for creating him.

Disease & Poison are strangely harsh on the players in a game that mostly isn't.

My 8 year old daughter decided to play SFS for the first time recently, so I happily GMd a table for her to sit at in our LGS. I rendered her pregen unconscious with sleeping gas in that scenario. The party had to help her handle it. She had a good time though and took it in stride. She wants to play a character with a higher fort save next time, however.

Hahhaha, I think I win this: An exo-guardian host shirren soldier whose gimmick was playing music so loud everyone had to resort to psi-speech around him.

Then they met a certain someone and I decided to tone it down.

Well, this one I played with my 4th level Daredevil Ace Pilot Operative but you still did it:

Save the Renkrodas:
When you can use your Uncanny Pilot ability to drive your vehicle up next to Vossi, then use your high acrobatics check and Uncanny Mobility to safely jump on her back and help subdue her, then use your high Survival skill to ride her into battle where she promptly eats the lead ecoterrorist...yeah...the mod seems written for you.

Special thanks to Andrew for realizing that having a poisonous swarm in the first encounter has a decent chance of taking a character out for the entire rest of the adventure and putting in solutions for that.
