Hero Lab states that I the Schooled Inquisitor trait I have for my Investigator is not a valid trait for PFS characters. Since when? Also, is this trait only available from Ultimate Campaign or is it in other sources (and which ones)?
According to Additional Resources it is legal.
Traits: all traits listed on pages 51-64 are legal for play except corpse cannibal, hedge magician, natural-born leader, rich parents, and unblemished barrel.
The trait is on page 56 of Ultimate Campaign.

Hero Lab is not where you should check for legality.
Check the Additional Resources page on Paizo.com
(To save you a moment here)

If Hero Lab is showing it as not legal you should report it to Lone Wolf Development via the reporting tool on their website.
edit: Ninja'd!

My recommended procedure is to check:
1) archivesofnethys.com
2) paizo.com/pathfinderSociety/rpg/additional
For legality, then:
3) paizo.com/pathfinderSociety/rpg/clarifications
4) http://paizo.com/organizedplay/faq
For any clarifications, then:
5) search the Forums for any potential table variation.
That's truly the most thorough way to guarantee your character is as legal as possible (IME).

Except, while Archives of Nethys tends to be more accurate than Hero Lab, it's not a source of determining PFS legality, and shouldn't even be mentioned if your trying to teach someone how to figure out definitively whether something is PFS legal.

there's a difference between treating something as a definitive source and looking over at someone elses homework and checking to see if you both got the same answer for question 6. Copying someone's answer can hurt, additional levels of verification not so much.

You missed 80% of my post -_-
The 5 steps I suggested, when done in order, are being about as reasonably thorough as anyone can expect.
