What happens to a summoned creature when the summoner goes to another plane

I am running a 3.5 game and my cleric summoned an elemental monolith. He had to flee to the ethereal plane or die. My question is Does the summoned elemental go back to its plane or does it go berserk and kill all till the summoning expires?

Once a creature is summoned, it's there until the spell expires or it does. There's no limit on range after it appears, so if the caster leaves and doesn't take the creature with them, it just carries out the last order or request to the best of its ability until the spell ends or it's killed.

Yeah, this, and also generally seeks to do what it can to attack your enemies to the best of its ability, at least according to the summon monster spells.

(I don't recall the specific wording on the spell that would allow you to summon an elemental monolith instead of an elder elemental.)

Also, Flagged, but only to get it moved to the appropriate forum. :)
