I take it around 2nd level spells? The trick is more: boost your caster level, do the crossblooded sorcerer thing with +2 damage per die, pick an element that isn't commonly resisted, and target more than one person. Situations vary so there's no one best. Unless you have good dex at level 4 scorching ray will be disappointing when you randomly take -8 to hit.
Our casters like scorching ray, as it is a ranged touch attack (and most foes have no real AC there). Later on it is easily modded with feats, due to it being only level 2.
Flaming sphere has the potential to do more damage, but it depends how your battles are going. You need several rounds to make the most of it, and distances/terrain play a role here.
I'm looking to grab the best DPS sorcerer spell.
Looks like the choice is between fire breath, flaming sphere, sorching ray and flurry of snowballs.
Any recommendations from the experienced players would be greatly welcomed.
To me, Flurry of Snowballs is more a control style spell than anything. Rime Meta Magic is +1 and Entangled is a Brutal condition for both Melee and Casters.
Scorching Ray will scale the Highest in damage as it adds more rays as you level up.
Flaming sphere will stick around the Entire fight and continue to do damage. So the Longer the fight goes the more damage it does.
Fire Breath is hardly worth it IMHO. You are almost better taking Intensified Meta magic and Burning Hands.
To do damage as a blaster it is more about the additions you can add to the spell. Like the Crossblooded trick, Adding Alchemical items to the casting, and Metamagics. Typically low-level blast spells with meta magics are better than high-level blasts with no metamagics. Things Like Intensified, empowered>Maximized, Rime, and Dazing.
Later on it is easily modded with feats, due to it being only level 2.
Searing Light can be level 1 [solar bloodline]. While it's only a single ray, it goes to 5d8 [10d6 or 10d8 undead/5d6 construct or objects], it's medium range and its untyped damage.
With level 1 for modding, there is plenty of fun to be had. Also, take point blank/precise shot right away if you're tossing ranged touch spells as low levels have your toughest touch ACs vs your hit. By the time you're modding your spells, you'll have plenty of time to snag some metamagic and such.
