I played Pathfinder for my first time, was told to sign up here etc.

Pathfinder Society

Hey, so I played a "mission" with my friend and a couple strangers last night. I was given some card and a piece of information and have been trying to sign up here and everything. How do I input my mission on to this site so I can gain my nasty 1XP? Also it looks like I can play this character on online missions, is that true/how do I do?

Welcome to the game and the forums!

As you seem to be asking about the Pathfinder Society organized games, you will get more responses posting in the Pathfinder Society forum. There are a few subsections of the forums, such as Pathfinder Society, General Discussions (for games outside of PFS organized play) and Starfinder.

I don't play PFS, but rather run home games, so I can't answer this specific question, but someone else will.

1. If you have linked the number on your card to your account then the XP has already been reported. you should have received a piece of paper called a chronicle when you played. That is your 1 XP and the rewards you have earned.

You are free to use that character in any online Pathfinder society game, though i recommend you scan and upload an image of the chronicle you received somewhere and link it on a character page on this site. As such i'd recommend you make a pfs character page. The option is somewhere in your MY Account area.

Feel free to ask any questions here.

Greetings and welcome to Pathfinder Society!

Go up to where it says "My Account" at the top of your page. There should be a link on that page saying something like "Join the Pathfinder Society!". Go down the rabbit hole from there and enter the confirmation number from that card they gave you. Eventually somewhere along the line you'll come across a series of buttons to create a "Pathfinder Society Role-playing Character".

That character will become your XXXXXX-01 character and should already have the mission you played reported under its "Sessions" tab.

(some of those steps might happen in different orders; it's been a while since I registered)

Once you get registered, if you are still interested in playing in online games, there are two ways people play online. Some use a system that uses voice chat and maps on the computer, and the game plays a lot like it would in person. The other way some play online is by play-by-post. A game played in this way takes weeks instead of hours. People use forum posts to explain what their character is doing. If you let us know which kind of online game you are interested in, we can help you find out more.

If you are posting here then you've signed up with paizo.

Your next step is to sign up with PFS/Organized play. As Nefreet said you go to your My Account page. Be aware there are TWO buttons, one creates a new PFS number and the second takes the PFS Number on your card and activates it with the code on the card. You want the second one as that is where your game was reported under.
Once you've activated your PFS number register a few characters using the various buttons. You can name them as you go otherwise they will have generic names based off your name.

Hilary posted a bunch of online links for online play. It's like a tabletop experience but a platform is used to show the map, your character token on the map. Video/audio feeds/sharing can be done through the online play site or a separate application. Some folks just put their camera above the map and move your figure for you. Some old-timers use spreadsheet cells...

    Or...

  • I'd probably rather try the slower play-by-post. I felt mostly confused with all the new stuff, both story-wise and combat-wise, so I think I'd better grasp the game this way. Any suggestions on which lodge to try? Which is more active and does more of simple missions or something for a beginner kind of thing?

It is not strictly required, but can be helpful for record keeping.

For the characters I use online, I post a history of their Chronicles for my GMs to see.

    I'l probably do that.

Someone said at my table I can move some things around if I'm still at level 1. is that right? Can I do that online, or in person?

    Sczarni 5/5 5/55/5 ***

Yes, basically you have a "1st level rebuild" available any time before you play above 1st level.

You can change your race, your class, your purchased items, virtually anything you want, except for spent Prestige and any consumed items, like potions or scrolls.

If you're interested in playing a game in play-by-post, I can tell you a little more about the various lodges in Hilary Moon Murphy's post above. I'm going to exclude the French language lodge and Castamir Station, since those are for people who want to play in French, or for people who are playing Starfinder instead of Pathfinder.

Flaxseed is our biggest lodge, and the one I'm associated with. We have new games starting up quite frequently, and if you post there saying you are new, someone can usually help you find a game within the next few days. The other lodges are smaller, and I can say less about them, but Pathfinder Society in general is very welcoming to new players.

If you are interested, come post in Flaxseed and we'll help you find a game. You also are certainly welcome to send me a private message (click on my name before this post to get an option to send me a message, watch the little envelope next to your name at the top of the screen for a response) if you have any questions.
