Campaign Mode Clarifications?

My friends and are are going to play Rise of the Runelords together and we decided we wanted to get credit for playing. We all have existing PFS characters which we can apply credit to. What are the specific rules for Campaign Mode? If we all use existing Characters, do we apply credit immediately it wait until the sanctioned level? And if we want to use house rules, how do we apply credit then? Do we get it all at once?

Hope someone can clear up the rules for me- it's our first time running an adventure path.

"Campaign Mode: For sanctioned modules and Adventure Paths, GMs are allowed to use their own rules for character creation and running the presented content (the entire book or series). Credit is applied to an appropriate Roleplaying Guild character as if the character created were a pregenerated character."

Each book will have a Chronicle, which you'll earn when you finish the book. That Chronicle will have a Level range. You can apply it to any PFS legal character within that level range, apply it to a 1st level PFS legal character with the gold reduced to 1398gp, or "hold it" for a PFS legal character of lower level than the Chronicle's range and apply it when that character reaches the appropriate level.

When it comes to houseruling, there are no rules beyond what you create or use. You could play "theatre of the mind", adapt the AP for D&D 5E, or play Mutants & Masterminds. The world's your oyster.

And what a beautiful pearl you'll make.

If you're just running the sanctioned portions, which usually means just a handful of dungeon crawls, then you can actually play with your PFS legal characters, but you have to conform to all of the rules of the PFS Campaign.

Can I split up what I play/use? For example if I wanted to play the first 2 sanctioned portions with a PFS CHARACTER, and then play the remaining entire chapters, would this be allowed?

I appreciate the help.

You couldn't "mix and match" during the same book, but otherwise you could do books 1, 3 and 6 with your PFS character and books 2, 4 and 5 with Deus Ex Machina.

Would probably mess up continuity. I can't think of any reason why you'd want to =\

You also can make a 'copy' of your PFS character to play through the entire adventure path in campaign mode. You would then hold the chronicles and apply them as the real character reached the right level.

My groups have done this multiple times and never had issues because of it.

So if our play group begins as house ruled level ones and play the entire book, we apply credit in the appropriate level range to any PFS chracter in the level range or to a level one right? Do I apply to a brand new level one or can I apply to a level one with credit marked on it already?

Thanks.

You can apply the chronicle in all the same ways you can for a pregen. Apply it to a character in the level range of the chronicle, hold it for a character who is lower level than the chronicle range, or reduce the gold and apply to a 1st level character.

It used to be limited to "brand new" Level 1s, but now it's any Level 1.
