First session went well. They had their Harrow reading. Attacked the Old Fishery. Ended the session just about before the attacked Gaedren's Playground.
Now I changed things up a little because I felt killing Gaedren so quickly was lame. I added a couple mooks and removed Gaerdren that had made it the same CR. The fight was fun, one of them nearly died to Gobblegut. Once they had everything looted and identified they made the roll to find the brooch belonged to Ileosa.
Then I didn't see this coming. They actually turned the brooch over to the Korvosan Guard. I quote "taking this to the queen is above our pay grade".
Now my thoughts are that the Queen will have them tracked down to reward them properly. She would probably have the guard bring them to the queen once they are tracked down.
Anyone else have this happen?
Well, this is easy to get back on track. The queen summons the PCs to properly thank them. No issue. She might even appreciate their modesty. And, no, my players weren't as modest.
If the PCs never meet the queen in the first chapter doesn't really impact things. The only important thing is that the PCs start to work for the Korvosan Guard. You can still have Kroft reach out to the PCs, impressed that they cleared out Lamm's hideout and offer them additional work.
Meeting the queen is nice to set attmosphere but isn't vital to anything that actually happens.
